5-day pouch test.
I have to say, I didn't know what to expect when I started this, as I have read a lot of pros and cons to it. I know the first day was the worst but it has gotten easier as the days go on. I am now on day four and last night for dinner I had a hard boiled egg and 3 shrimp and felt stuffed. for lunch today I had chicken salad with minimal amount of mayo on it, as the salad is still very dry but tastes good and some cottage cheese, which I am unable to eat because I am full after about 3oz of chicken. I will eat some more around 230. I also have been eating sugar free pudding, which is the one with probiotic in it and it helps me stay regular, which in the past was a problem. I think this experience has made remember to listen to my body. I plan on having a hamburger tonight but that is probably about it because I don't know as I can eat much more than that.
Does anyone know when you can have cheese on this, as they really don't mention cheese or nuts, which are a good sources of protein?
This is just a fad diet-like the cabbage soup diet and so many others. Why are you doing this? You aren't even a year out.
Nutritionally the only thing you need to focus on first is getting the required amount of protein prescribed by your doctor (which at almost a year out should be between 75-100 grams per day if I remember correctly). Don't you have a food plan that was provided?
Make sure you drink your water and take your supplements every day. Exercise is important for your overall health and to help maintain weight loss.
You are nearing the end of the first year, and getting close to the end of the "honeymoon" period when malabsorption is the greatest. Make the most of this time to really change your habits PERMANENTLY so you wont have to repeatedly try fad diets....I don't know about you, but they didn't work so well for me and helped me diet myself to 324 lbs.
What Kim said. IMO -- and based on what I have seen happen with people here and IRL *****sort to the 5DPT -- going back to a fad diet less than a year out from your RNY rather than focusing on, and trusting in, healthy food choices to help you lose the weight doesn't bode very well for long-term success. Almost everyone I know who did the 5DPT early out has had to it repeatedly in order to TRY to keep their weight under control (and most have not been successful... they use the "test" the same way they used diets before heir RNY). Please do yourself a favor and focus on healthy food choices rather than fad diets.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
Thank you both for making me realize what I was doing. i have just been so frustrated, as I have been at a stall for more than two months now and wanted to try something. One thing I did realize by doing this, (though I did stop after I read both your posts) was that I NEED to eat my protein first. I was eating a salad before my protein, then I would be hungry a hour later and didn't know why. Since I started eating my protein first, I have been staying full for about three hours and that is usually the time I would eat. I am taking your advice and exercising, taking my vitamins and drinking my water. Getting my water in is the hardest because I work in a clinic and am busy so don't always have time to get a drink, if you know what I mean but I think I will just have to start taking drinks between each patient. I mean it only takes a few seconds, right. Thanks again so much.
