So lately I have been having this blurry vision - almost like a strain at times! My nurse practioners told me to start taking vitamin a but the ones i bought are gel 10,000 iu once a week - seems like its wearing off cause my eyes are acting up again! Anyone know of where to get powder pill form cause I heard we don't absorb oil very well.
Any help or comments wud be appreciated thanks a bunch

Steph

I am going to have to try Vitamin A, my vision has gotten horrible over the last year when trying to read small print, etc... I thought it was just age, or just my eyes changing, but never even thought it could be vitamin related! I'll be on the hint for a powder form as well. Thanks for the info!

You're just over a year out, so you probably just had labs done, right?  Was your A low?

do you know what your vitamin A level is?  Vitamin A is usually taken daily not weekly.  10,000 units weekly is a tiny dose.  when I was vitamin A deficient, my NUT started me on 25,000 units daily and when that wasnt enough after 3 months, she increased me to 50,000 units daily.  I know it isnt good to take too much vitamin A but too little is even more dangerous.  the range for vitamin A is 38-98, if you are under 40 - you definitely need to take atleast 25,000 units daily to start.  Idealy, you want your A level to be up around 60 or 70.  It doesnt affect your regular vision at first, only night blindness.

Kelly, I have a question for you about iron. Carbonyl is not available in Canada, even by special order, so I am currently taking liquid ferinsol by enfamil.. ferrous sulfate... but my red blood cell count keeps being low (but not anemic). Do you know of an alternate way to boost iron that RNY people can absorb?

I'd try ferrous fumerate.   Ferrous sulfate is probably the most difficult to absorb and if you take a big dose, it 's going to make it impossible to poop.

I take the ferrous sulphate 300mg with a vitamin c chewable chased right after! I take one more every morning and then last at night not close to any meals or other vitamins! Not sure if that helps you! Just realized myself been taking vitamin d in oil caps and no wonder still feeling low and tired cause it does not absorb!! I wish someone in the health field told me that lol
Good luck

can you order from Vitalady.com?  She sells carbonyl iron - tender irons - 60mg each with the necessary vitamin C in each capsule.  You should be able to order from that website - she is one of us Gastric Bypss patients that opened a vitamin company. she really knows her stuff.  If you are iron deficient - you would probably want to take 2 or 3 of them at a time, but not within 2 to 4 hours of any calcium, multi or thyroid medication.  the stuff really works and is pretty cheap. You might have to pay extra shipping to go to canada.  You can get calcium citrate chewables, Dry D3 and other stuff if you need them while ordering.
