Long time since being on here....so ashamed
Hello,
It's been a long time since I've been on here. I used to visit frequently before and right after I had my surgery in 2004. I visit occasionally but not often because I'm a very busy single momma to an active 5 year old girl.
I hate to admit this, but I weighed yesterday. I had done so good until I got pregnant. I was almost 500 pounds when I had my surgery. Prior to getting pregnant in 2007 I had gotten down to around 260 pounds. I was so proud of myself. After pregnancy I just kept gaining. And now...shamefully...I am at 528 pounds.
I've talked to my regular doctor and my gynecologist. My GYN doctor is very supportive and after talking to her about my weight she thinks it may be a medical problem. So she found me a bariatric surgeon who will take my insurance. Not necesserily for surgery, but to see why I'm having a hard time getting the weight back off. I've tried doing the whole high protein, low carb thing as well as weigh****chers. I can't seem to get it off. I just keep gaining. So my appointment with the surgeon is on March 18th.
I'm wanting to know what other long time post-ops are eating and how much they are eating. I just need some help. My GYN also found me a local support group. I attended last month and will also go this month. I guess I'm just hoping for some support on here once again as I start my journey over.
Thanks,
Julie

Do you log and weigh and measure all the food you eat?? Welcome back, I've found everyone to be so helpful here!! Best of luck to you!!!
Julie,
Do not be ashamed!! You got your weight down to 260 lbs once you can do it again. That is an amazing accomplishment in itself. Don't sell yourself short because life happens and sometimes things spiral out of control. I am 5 months out but my fiance also had his surgery in 2004, came out of surgery at 800 lbs and was 376 at his lowest weight. Unfortunately his head never caught up with him and a couple of years ago he started drinking and the weight started creeping back. He's now at about 455, and I say about because he wont get himself weighed. Now he is dealing with heart problems and has no choice but to lose this weight again. Going back to a bariatric surgeon is the best thing you can do. They don't necessarily have to do surgery again, it is very possible they can work with you to get you back on track. I just wanted you to know that you aren't alone. But seeking the help is your first step. I have complete faith in you and believe that you will be back to losing in no time and can reach your goal. Hugs to you and if you ever need to talk feel free to message me!

Wow Trishc you have an incredible story, amazing! Julie, welcome, I have gone through periods of gaining by letting my emotions govern my choices and it's work to get on track but it can be done! I use my fitness pal and my written journal to track all my intake. When I am honest, I lose, when I don't write it down, I gain. Never be ashamed. I wasted several months and gained more because I was ashamed of gaining back that first five lbs, which tumbled into 30lbs very quickly. Looking back, had I been a bit more kind to myself and just got my head in the game instead of returning to hating myself, I might not have as much regain to lose. Join us on the back on track group to see what others are eating. Check out a day in my pouch on the world according to eggface site, she gives a good view of some reasonable portions and great food ideas. Put yourself first and take the time to plan your protein first meals, and drop all things sugary, I swear that innocent white substance is death, and so delicious in all it's forms it sneaks up on us. For a sweet I use Quest bars, on occasion, and sometimes a yummy protein shake. Get or lab work done, see what vitamin support you need. Sorry, I've been a bit rambling here, but just know we are happy to support you, you can do it!
Did your first surgeon give you guidelines for your diet and vitamins? Were you encouraged to exercise? I'm always curious about the doctor and how much education and follow up he gives. What were you expecting from the first surgery and what type of surgery did you have? I'm really interested in why some people get off track and why some make it to goal and do a complete turn around with their diets. There is a wide difference in what I see here in the guidelines from various doctors.
I'm sure there are others on this forum that weigh as much as you and maybe you could work together in a separate group to discuss your progress and ways to keep on track. You definitely have challenges that you all would relate too in addition to members here that will be cheerleaders. In the mean time look for a Center of Excellence for your bariatric surgeon.
My best wishes to you. I'm glad you are going to get back to taking care of yourself.
