once in a while foods
At three months you should be focused on finishing your goal and then see how you feel. Not everyone wants to eat sweets or carbs. Many of those old comfort foods don't call my name anymore and I think that is what most of us hope for. Develop new favorite recipes. Think of it as the new normal. You don't have to feel deprived.
Kelly, how does one piece of cake not trigger you? I thought an amazing piece of cake would be a trigger for anyone. I have not lost my desire for sweets, it is just that I don't feel that good afterwards..I wish I could eat them in moderation, and pray that after I read goal, I will be this changed person that I am not yet. Great discussion and topic. Thank you! Allison
I dunno. I like sweets. But I can eat them in moderation. It's the crunchy carby things like crackers I can't stop eating once I get started.

i have found what kinda works for me....when i am going to have some thing that i really should not be having....something that is not that good for me....i made a rule....i have to open the package, take out what i want, and hold that in one hand and then re-close that same item i just took food out of while holding the said food...
so for instance....chips...open package, take out handful of chips, hold chips in one hand and re close that same package....then i walk away and get to have my treat....have you tried to close a ziplock baggie with one hand holding some thing in theother?? its not that easy....and a handfull of something is much better than the whole bag of that same something...
now this may not work with trigger foods....but so far this has been working for me.. and i have made it in my mind that i only get 2 handfuls of that treat in the day...so that helps some too....if you go back 3,4,5,6 times and even manage to close package kind of defeats the rule....breads were my all time favorites...any and all kinds of breads...so i have been making mini muffins of pumpkin bread and carrot cake and i only get 2 of the mini muffins....no frosting on the carrot cake....and my carrot cake i have made with whole wheat flour, almond flour, oat flour, flax seeds, honey, molasis, and just a tad bit of raw sugar, and truvia/stevia blend.....and so far this carrot cake has been able to stand alone with out the cream cheese frosting...
anyhow..just a thought on how i have managed to eat the not so often foods...
have a blessed weekend

That's a great way of thinking about foods! I enjoy certain foods once in a while, like Coke. Before the surgery I enjoyed Coke several times a day, which is part of why I was so obese. I enjoy deserts once in a while. I'll never forget there was a time that I posted on here that I ate something (I think it was a slice of cheesecake or french fries) and it made me sick. Someone replied, something to the effect of "I would NEVER eat that after I have my gastric bypass!" Guess what, slim people enjoy so-called "fattening" foods, they just do so in moderation. There's something to be learned from that.
Terri, I can almost guarantee that a healthy relationship with ALL food will set you up for long term success. If we could "never" eat something, we'd 'NEVER" need WLS. We pave the way for failure when we live in a denial mindset.....which is what most diets are based on.........WHICH IS WHY THEY FAIL. We should strive to have a healthy relationship with food AND exercise so that when we indulge, we can burn it off with movement.
Sounds like you head is in a good place.
1,2,3 cake.
1 box angel food cake mix
1 box regular cake mix
mix them together and store in an airtight container.
when you are ready for something sweet, mix 3T cake mix and 2****er in a mug or small bowl and microwave for 1 minute. I used lemon cake and substituted one T of lemon juice for water and it's yummy. I am not a big sweets addict, so it doesn't trigger me to overeat.
