Lost 100lbs!
Boy, what a journey this has been so far! I will be 11 months out on the 7th of this month. Just want to keep plugging along. I have no set goal except to maybe see if my body wants to go another 30 pounds, which could take quite awhile now that I have slowed down. I have no complaints with time frames and never was in a race to see if I could lose a gazillion pounds five days after surgery. 100 pounds is alot of fat. Go to your butcher counter and have them put 10lbs of fat on their scale and then you will see to some degree even with pounds coming off a little at a time can make a difference. Maintaining down the road is where my mind has gone to for quite awhile.
Anyway, every single pound counts and the scale is only a small part of all of this. My health, clothing, movement ( such as it is with my hips) but so many ways of seeing the weight loss. The only thing I have to say about the RNY is if my insurance would have covered the Sleeve I may have gone with that because I cannot take NSAIDs and let me tell all of you, eventually arthritis and other ailment**** as we age or even with injuries and needing an NSAID is not an option. Yes, I am fortunate that I have pain meds, but that gets really old and get tired of taking them. My diabetes would have gone into remission with just weight loss alone so getting the RNY, Sleeve or DS would have taken care of that. I hope doctors tell their patients that there is no cure for diabetes and surgery doesn't cure you. Unfortunately alot of people were shocked and disappointed when they weren't told and thought WLS was a cure all.
Thought I would share this and best wishes to all for the support. Jane
Wowsers Jane!!!!! I am so thrilled for you my friend!!!! I know how exciting it is to lose 100 lbs!!!! I am so happy you are staying so positive and not looking at the calendar to set your goals. You are an inspiration to many!!!
Congratulations!!!! Now if you haven't done it.. Clean out that closet and dresser drawers and say goodbye to all those baggy over sized clothes!!!! Go get some cute ones and go strut your stuff!!!!
Oh my dear Southern Cali Friend! Thank you! Oh hell, I clean out my closet every so many months. I didn't keep one single thing in my closet or drawers except my bras and undies, some tops and leggings, but very few. I refused to walk around in clothes that were too big, and yes, it takes some time to learn how to wear clothes that fit our bodies. We aren't use to it! Thanks dear!! Jane

Thanks, Janet! Someone posted a long time ago this is not a race. I figured it's going to be what it's going to be for me, cause I wouldn't be able to exercise and incorporate that into my weight loss. Believe me, if I could just do something as simple as walk every day I would be thrilled. So I lift hand weights and dance to music while I stand up and use all the upper exercises I used in Jazzercise years ago. It is not going to burn it but it gets my heart rate up which is good. I suppose I may have lost more if I could have moved more. Who knows and I can't wish for something that may or may not have happened. BUT it's important for everyone to get something in, even if it's walking around at work, through the grocery stores. Oh! That's what I do though! I go and walk as much as I can with the shopping cart. I would never have thought something as simple as that now is my form of walking. Thanks for the support, Janet. BY the way, Jane is the first 4 letters of your name so that is a good thing!! Hahahaha I get called Janet all the time and I am really good with that too! Jane
Hey Karen! How have you been? Thanks for the reply. Yes, I don't think there is a person who has ever been obese can understand everything in our daily life that effects us. But judgement weighs heavy on us that don't have a "normal weight" and the prejudices that go with it are tremendous. Who was always the biggest one in the group? Me. Not getting on a pity pot here, but there are too many things to list that have effected us one way or the other. Again, thanks for the support, girl! Jane
Congratulations, Jane - you have done really well! xxx
I'm the poster girl regarding the remission/cure of diabetes as I definitely have it now - albeit controlled with Metformin, good diet and exercise! You do not have to be overweight or a couch potato for it to return!!!!! I have no doubt that I am able to better control it because of my RNY lifestyle though.
