I've just learned about this iphone app that got good reviews from a different group of friends.  http://www.c25k.com  You start out jogging 60 seconds and walking (briskly) 90 seconds, jog, walk, etc. The workouts take about 30 minutes (including a 5 min warm up and 5 min cool down), three days a week.

I second this!

I did C25k last year and continued running after completing it. Tomorrow I'm running my first 10k race and then I'm going to start training for a fall half-marathon.

There are lots of paid apps and free podcasts out there to guide you. It's an easy an cheap way to get active.

I have several friends who are doing this program and LOVE IT! One started it two years ago and now does marathons!
