Mourning

I mourned food very hard.  It was a devastating loss.  But now, a year out, I have foods I enjoy that meet my requirements.

I do miss a delicious pizza, the way I knew it then, but I know it would not taste the same now and it would make me ill.  I put a couple slices of turkey pepperoni with a spoonful of heart healthy prego, mushrooms, and mozzarella cheese.  It was just OK and it did remind me of pizza, but it wasn't something I wanted a second time.

I make gingerbread cakes with frosting for hubby but I have no desire to eat it.  I don't even lick my fingers if I accidentally get frosting on them.  The only thing I have craved is a mint cookie protein shake!   I know, its an odd sensation.

Good luck!

I felt like you do. I was thinking about everything I wouldn't be able to eat and I went on a last goodbye eating spree.

What I didn't understand was that most people don't dump. Now at almost 3 years out I can eat ANYTHING. I now wish I hadn't tried EVERYTHING and I wish I couldn't eat the crap.

According to my nutritionist, most of the foods I liked before I will be able to incorporate in the future, so I am fine with waiting until the time is right to enjoy them again.

There is one food, however, that she doubts I will ever be able to tolerate and that is rare prime rib smothered with rough cut horseradish. I used to eat prime rib at least once a month. LOVE it. It is always the center of our holiday and special celebration meals. We have even had one on Thanksgiving along with a turkey when we had 26 people at our table and I knew that we'd go through both.

I make a FABULOUS prime rib and have several excellent restaurants near me that do as well.

My 'farewell to prime rib' meal was the Saturday before my liquid diet began and you know...I just don't miss it because I know it would make me sick and it is not there for me. But at some point in the future I will be able to eat rare roast beef deli slices and put horseradish on that (though she said I might need to do the creamy vs. the very hot rough cut) and that is fine with me.

As far as 'dealing' with it, I made a solid decision that I wanted to be a healthy weight and a nothing will ever taste as good as healthy will feel. And that is that. My mind is set.

I eat prime rib all the time - why on earth not?   I have a harder time eating turkey than a nice juicy rare prime rib ...

Why would your NUT even tell you that???  I eat prime rib, roast beef, steak all which go down way much better than chicken or turkey.  Do not deny yourself of prime rib.  That is a bunch of bunk.  Sorry, not angry at you, just half the crazy NUTS out there who don't even know what time a day it is. Unless you have some physical reason you cannot tolerate meat or whatever reason, I say enjoy yourself especially at the holiday!!!!   Jane

Personally I hate prime rib but it is apparently the choice for holiday for lots of people, my bf's family always makes it.  I can eat it just fine.  I could eat the horseradish too, I don't eat it with that but I like it with shrimp ****tail.  Plain meat that doesn't have lots of fat in it is easy for me to eat, and I always take a piece from the center that has no fat around the edge.

I am sure you will be able to eat this stuff too.

My surgery isn't untl July 8th, so I am crossing off my "mouring" list of foods now.  I have a little of each of a current favorite; some of which I cannot eat post-op (like popcorn).  It isn't the outrageous foods, just simple comfort ones, which unfortunately "comforted" me to my present weight.  I am ok not having a Snickers, fast food or lasagna post-op, I just have to be focused on getting healthy and learning new ways of eating to live, not living to eat, jmho.

Believe in yourself and don't ever stop dreaming!

Honestly I found that I just don't want it anymore. You know what I was most sad about food wise until recently? Salad lol. All I wanted was to eat a stinking salad. I'm 6 1/2 mo out now and I live me some salad. Although cucumber make my pouch angry and I feel like lettuce is a waste of space sometimes so my "salads" now consist of tomatoes, cheese and chicken or tuna with some lite or ff dressing. I've discovered even if I don't dump or throw up if I eat the bad stuff I just end up feeling like crap. Even if its just a taste. Not worth it for me. I've been through too much to get here. No food is worth the risk of slipping back into bad habits. Even the really good stuff! It gets easier. One thing that motivated me was the only picture in existence of me at my heaviest weight (440lbs). Like I said sooooooo not worth it.
