Is this a common thing after surgery? I started with back pain and now excrutiating left leg pain and the pain shoots all the way down my leg. My leg also spasms i cannot stand without gasping. It's gotten to the point i need to lift my leg just to lay down on my bed. I am on 2 different muscle relaxers and ultram with no relief. I am hoping to have an MRI tomorrow it needs to be done right away because i cannot even function anymore... going to the bathroom to walk there hurts.. i am not eating much because i don't want to walk to get it.. waking up in the middle of the night now too... i need help getting in and out of bed and the shower as well. I am feeling helpless right now the pain is that bad. I was told to go back to the ER again today and i am honestly afraid to even walk to the car.. i am not able to work either i work standing on my feet and my leg wobbled so bad from the pain i had to leave. Has anyone had any experience with this? My x-ray came back fine but i haven't had an MRI yet. Anything you did that helped for anyone who has had any of these problems? I am seeing a PT too. I really don't know what else to do. I cannot do anything i need to do in normal every day life without pain.

If it's a nerve, muscle relaxers will do absolutely nothing to help. When my L5-S1 disk blew, the lower back pain moved down my butt, to the outside of my leg, all the way down to my toe. I was on hydrocodone every couple of hours for about three months. I had three steroid epidurals to shrink the disk. They did work eventually. Just remember that pain meds will stop you up. If they give you pain meds, make sure you do everything you can to avoid it. I get you on the not eating thing. I lost 40 pounds in 3 months because of it.

It sounds like when I had sciatica.  It was horrible and I couldn't function on my own for months.  It felt like there was a bowling ball in my hip.  Water aerobics worked to get back to a reasonable place but it took months to feel free of it.  Weight loss helped and I don't need a cane or wheelchair now.  Hope you can find a cure soon.  I was determined to avoid back surgery.

I also have sciatica. Sometimes it gets so bad that I cant move and the pain is unbearable. I have degenerative disc disease and with the sciatica, sometimes I cant stand the pain. I would love to be more active and do some walking but I just cant. Hopefully you will get this resolved and they can give you something to get rid of the pain. Prayers are with you.

I was prescribed a high dose of steroids prednisone like my surgeon said no to taking them because of the risk of bleeding and my high risk of ulcers due to my gastritis.
