5 years and the weights creeping back
I had RNY 5 1/2 years ago. Was very successful with no problems. Lost 102 and reached goal in 14 months. Over the last year the weight seems to be creeping back on. Yes, I did change my lifestyle, moved out of state, decreased exercise. But for the last 6 months have been working really hard to get 60-70 grams of protein and upped my exercise and it doesn't seem to be working like it did before. Anyone else gaining and what are you doing to get back on track? I appreciate any advise.
I diet 5 days a week 1000 calories a day and eat freely approx 1500 on weekends. This is what keeps me at goal. The older I get the less calories I need to maintain, unfortunately the only thing you can do is reduce calories more. Whatever you eat now you have to remove more calories to lose and then find the balance to maintain. It isn't easy at all. I just refuse to regain so I am super strict with myself. I had 4 years of easy loss and maintenance, now it is sheer willpower and actual sacrifice.
I would suggest upping you protein, shoot for 80-100 grams a day. Replace carbs such as rice, pasta, breads, cereals etc with protein choices if you are eating those. If you cannot go without eating those things minimize them as much as possible, measure small portions of them such as 1/4 c. Just for satisfaction of them. Be aware of sugar counts in fruits, just try to et clean, meaning you prepare it, it doesn't come in a package, processed in any way. Good luck!
My original surgery as a VBG and I did tremendously well with that. But things happened, parents died, lost job, life in general.
After 6 years I put ALL my weight back on.
DON"T DO IT!!!
If the scale is slipping now, get help. Don't let yourself fall too far. It's so very hard to get back on track again. I had revision to RNY about 14 months ago and have taken off over 200 lbs. My weightloss is almost at a stand still now but I still have a long way to go to be at a normal weight for my height. Or I need to grow about 6 inches taller!
I HOPE only to encourage you to keep a very watchful eye on your health and do everything you can to keep what you have now and not give it all back.
How many carbs are you eating? What do those carbs come from? Chances are, like most people, you have let some extra carbs (probably "white" carbs) sneak back in. Are you tracking how many calories you are eating (and monitoring your portion sizes)? It is VERY easy to let the portion sizes creep up over the years.
When I gain 5 pounds, I eliminate all non-protein, non-veggie carbs (including fruits), and focus on protein and water intake. It usually takes me about 2 weeks to drop those 5 pounds.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
