I see that some say to drink 20-30 mins after a meal and some say 1 hour after, Vets and anyone with knowledge concerning, which is best and why? Thank you in advance to your help on this one.

According to my surgeon and based on my own 6 years of experience (and nothing more... I have not done any research on this), it takes about 30 minutes on average for the food to empty out of our pouch, so that is the basis for the 30 minute restriction.  I assume that some surgeons say to wait an hour just to be certain that even very dense foods (which would empty more slowly) have already emptied on their own before we start drinking.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.

I personally wait 30min. If I wait the full hour, I often forget to restart sipping until it is close to meal time again because I am focused on other things.

I am not a vet but my surgeon says 30 minutes

I was told 30 and I still stick to it today. Why? Watch this video on YouTube. The messy kitchen was distracting (shudder) to me, but the message is great!!

Yeah, that explains why not to drink right after eating, but it doesn't address whether waiting 30 minutes or an hour is better...

No, it does not, but it is good information on the same subject. Good information never hurts.......

Oh, definitely.  I think maybe my post came across the wrong way (in one of my rare attempts at brevity).  I was just lamenting that there isn't anything out there that would explain any advantage to waiting longer than 30 minutes. Sorry if my remark came off as being critical... was not intended that way at all!

I would like thank you all for the information provided, very helpful and the video was good as well. I will definitely not drink with a meal and I'll go with 30 min rule, it's mighty hard to wait one hour before drinking!!
