Glad to meet you and get to know you. I had my rny on August 29,2012 and weighed 258.5 when I started this journey. The day of surgery I was 253 and miserable. I had high blood pressure that wasn't controlled on three pills and diabetes. I would have to stop to catch my breath when I went down a flight of stairs. Now about 11 months later I weigh 125. My blood sugar and blood pressure are normal and I no longer wear a size 24. I now wear a size 2! I now walk 5 is for fun and love to exercise!! Only about 30 percent of bypass people do dump. I am one of the thirty percent but am glad I do because sweets were a big part of my obesity. I have only had one episode where I was miserable r about 40 minutes, but it helps me to be careful of what I eat and makes it easy to resist the sweets I used to live for! I am fine with fruits just have to stay away from added table sugar. There is no reason to worry about malabsorption as long as you make your vitamins and are faithful about getting your blood levels checked. I am thankful every day for my surgeon and his staff who gave me my life back. I am living life as a normal sized person for the first time ever!

Sure, people have problems, but keep in mind that people don't usually post to say they don't have problems. I think the vast majority either have no problems or they're minor-ish ones. I'm two and a half weeks out, so I haven't had much time to have problems. I had an issue with too much fat twice, once with regular mayo (wasn't thinking) and once with 2% milk. I seem to be slightly lactose intolerant right now but that could go away. Other than that, things are fine for me. I post questions that I haven't seen asked before, and for the most part I don't talk about how freaking well I'm doing because I don't want people to get upset about it. I saw my psychiatrist last week for the first time post op and he grinned the whole time. Saw my therapist this morning and he's thrilled too. You may have problems, you may not, but I think the surgery is definitely worth it.

Terri--

Welcome!  You will work to learn what you need to in order to be successful!  I was shaking my head reading your story, since it is very similar to mine.  The band made me feel like more of a failure than anything else in my life, I feel SO much better mentally and physically without the band.

Good luck in your continued journey!

Band #1... 2006 Band #2 (revision) 2008 RNY 6/15/12 (revision).    Third time is the charm!  7/30/13 BL/TT/Thigh Lipo.  THE END!!!

I have been feeling like a total failure. I think that people who know I have a band are saying "how did she gain back this much weight?" And I am very embarrassed. Getting excited for revision.
