Grieving

I realized yesterday that I have been kind of difficult to be around. (Lol).  I feel sad and as if Iam grieving a loss.....my love affair with food. I guess every day I used to spend a lot of time and energy planning food and activities around food. Now that I am 2 1/2 weeks post op I am having some difficulties with what to do. I am still planning meals and cooking but  it is just not the same if you are not eating it.

My hubby told me yesterday that I am obsessed with food and he is right. I am very interested in what the family is eating and how it tastes but I have been crabby too. The funny thing is that I have no desire to eat. I feel full all of the time and I am losing weight which is great! But how do I stop the food interest if I have to plan, shop, and cook meals?

Yesterday was bad. I lost my temper, screaming like a lunatic . I know my hormones are out of whack. I am usually very calm and stoic. I was afraid I hurt my new pouch and ran into my bedroom to calm down, after I threw the tv remote which hurt my stomach. Lol.   What is wrong with me??

Your hormones are a mess because as you begin to lose weight they are released into your bloodstream--hence the crazy moods. Hang in there it will get much easier as you begin to eat more normal food. I still love to cook and eat good food I just eat less of it-much less! I enjoy flavors much more now and savor the food I do eat. You will get there too just give yourself time!

I haven't had surgery yet, but I know that your body has gone through great changes.  I do suffer from depression.  I fought for years to keep off anti-depressants, then a childhood friend told me he had started on medicine and told me how much better I would feel once started.  He was right, I am very glad, I take Citalopram which is a generic for Celexa I think.  Maybe you need to talk to your Doctor about putting you on meds.  It will help you cope and deal with this dramatic change in life.  I know I'm in for some big changes, but I want it to happen.  I love food, but it is killing me.  I take 4 insulin shots a day and I know I probably won't live to see old age  if I don't have this surgery.  Look at the weight loss and the improvements it has made on your life.  I look forward to more energy and activity in my life along with saying goodbye to insulin and diabetes.  I hope I've said something to encourage you and I wish you the best.

Thanks for your reply Steve. Yes I am very grateful for the surgery and people have already noticed my weight loss which is terrific!!! I wouldn't say that I am depressed. I am just dealing with pain after surgery, upset stomach, and some emotional things that will be coming up as I learn to change bad habits I guess. I just never realized how much importance I had placed on what's for dinner. ...he he

Great post. I had my revision surgery a day before you (can't update profile due to a technical issue). I too am food obsessed and it seems I am just as bad post-op but now it is an obsession with getting protein, etc in. Worries me though as it is still obsessive focus on food. Wish I was one of those people who lost total interest. Going to make an appointment with the psychologist to help me work on this while I am in the honeymoon phase.
