What would you like to know about vitamins?
For those of you that don't know, I write a column on vitamins for the Bariatric Foodie newsletter (if you don't already get the newsletter, go to the website and sign up, you're missing lots of great stuff, and I don't just mean my words of wisdom, either!). In the past, I've done articles on different vitamins like B12, D3, and calcium, and I've also written about vitamin toxicity, and about the ASMBS vitamin recommendations for different types of WLS. I'm just thinking ahead about future articles, and thought I'd ask here, if you get the newsletter, what topics would you like to see articles about in the coming months? Or if you don't get the newsletter, I'd still like to know what vitamin-related topics you'd be interested in reading about. Thanks for the ideas!

That's a good question. I'll tell you right now, briefly, the main reason for hair loss after surgery is a reaction to general anesthesia. It's called telogen effluvium and no vitamins will prevent it. Some vitamin deficiencies, like iron deficiency and B12 deficiency, can cause hair loss. But if you aren't low on those things, taking extra won't prevent hair loss. Hair loss can be caused by lots of things. If you don't get enough protein, you can lose hair, but if you're losing hair due to lack of protein, taking extra iron isn't going to help, for instance.
I wouldn't worry too much about hair loss. You'll probably lose some, you'll notice it more than anyone else will, and it will grow back.
