What would you like to know about vitamins?
Well, biotin deficiency causes hair loss. If you are losing hair due to a biotin deficiency, then taking biotin will fix the problem. However, if you are losing hair for other reasons (like telogen effluvium which is a reaction to general anesthesia, or lack of protein, or zinc or iron deficiency) it is unlikely that taking biotin will fix the problem. If you are losing hair due to a zinc deficiency, for instance, probably the only thing that will stop the hair loss is to take more zinc. Taking biotin will not fix a zinc deficiency. Make sense?
Biotin deficiency is not very common, so if you're losing hair and don't know why, taking biotin might help but probably won't because a lack of biotin is probably not causing the hair loss. You'd have better luck getting some labs done to try to find out the real cause of the hair loss and then addressing that issue.

I've heard it can affect your magnesium level but I'm not sure if that's true or not. I doubt it will cause it to get dangerously high, though. I'll have to look up some stuff on magnesium, though. Thanks for asking a good question!

Here's a topic of interest (of personal experience!): the connection between high copper levels and birth control pills in post-WLS patients. Remember when I was being a medical mystery because I was crazy high on copper levels and it didn't matter how I changed my multis? Copper went down only when I stopped the BCP, now in normal range! Gyno had me do Mirena, which releases the hormones locally instead of systemically, which can create high copper levels due to our malabsorption (or something like that).

That is an interesting issue. I do remember you were looking for a multi with no copper.

You can order chewable calcium citrate online. But you should absorb the calcium citrate you swallow just fine.
What's your vitamin D level? Low vitamin D (below 80) means you won't absorb calcium well, no matter how much you take or how you take it. That's the most likely cause of low calcium.
Other causes of low calcium include serious health conditions, so you should talk with your doctor about it.
