Isn't this site supposed to be supportive??
This site is very supportive. Sometimes people may be a little harsh sometimes and other times because everything is written, it comes across as more harsh than they intended. Of course there are also people that come on here and want the community to tell them it's ok that they are starting to fall into bad habits again. The bariatric coordinator at my hospital is our biggest cheerleader, but she will set you straight if that is what is needed too.
Like any anonymous online community you have a few bad apples too. Just ignore them.
Yeah, this site is supposed to be supportive. And for the most part, I think it is.
Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.
Agree with you totally. For the most part it is supportive. There are a few people that come to mind that make me cringe when I see them respond to my posts because I know what's coming. People who have to push you down to build themselves up are insecure and I try to not let them bother me. Its kinda like tough love on here. If you post about cheating or screwing up be prepared for the firing squad. I found it's better off not to post certain things here. There is a fb group called Bariatric Kitchen that is extremely supportive.
Why don't you block those people that make you cringe when you see them respond to your posts?

No, they just won't see your posts anymore and you won't see theirs.

It will just look to them as if you don't exist here at all (and to you, that they do not exist at all). It can make some posts confusing, if someone you have blocked replies to a post ands done replies to THEIR reply, you will only see the second item...
It is not entirely "secretive", though. Someone CAN log out and access the site as a guest and still see your posts and replies (so they WILL know that way if you blocked them). Same thing apples to you. You can log out and then see anything people you have blocked has posted. You just cannot reply to any of those items, nor they to yours.
You also may miss some good information if you block a bunch of people. Only you can decide whether sacrificing information is worth less aggravation (and sometimes it is). You can always take a "break" from someone and then unblock them later on.
