Not to scare newbies/ prepos TMI --- blisters from clear adhesive over steri strips.

So I knew enough to have the staff write allergic to silk tape on my hospital band. I get red rashes really quickly from bandages. So I can only use the Paper tape on my skin. I was good about every IV throughout the hospital stay. But I didn't think about the clear square adhesives that cover ea*****ision site. The steri strips look great but after the PA took off the clear cover ups I got full blown blisters framing ea*****ision.

Any suggestions

I got that too-I can't have any adhesive type bandage on my skin or I get awful blisters. My surgeon actually glued/sutured the incisions-I'm surprised the glue didn't bother me but it didn't. I had a large tegaderm over the largest incision where my lapband port was removed and I HAD to have it off as soon as I woke up as it was already starting to blister.

It should clear up now that the clear dressings are off..

My surgeon glued them closed. Very nice.

Me too.  I had trouble with blistering with the steri strip adhesive.  I knew that I couldn't tolerate paper tape but found the blisters as the steri strips were coming off.  They were so itchy!

I had a terrible reaction to the steri strips when I had my gallbladder removed so I asked the doc if he would not use them for my rny surgery. He stabled my incisions but I had the staples removed within a week that there is no staple mark now. It worked fine and I didn't had the poison ivy blistering like before.

These blister markers are so ugly ! After surgery I didn't want to look at my belly at all. Now I feel so dumb. Had I looked the first day or so then maybe I wouldn't have these oh so ugly marks.

Yep, a lot of people are sensitive to steri strips, I had the same thing. I still left them be and waited for them to curl up before taking them off, but I used a little Benadryll cream and it helped a lot, plus a cold towel.

I had an allergic reaction to the dermabond...glue on the incisions...redness, swelling and blisters that were draining. I have added that to my list of allergies. I also added NSAIDS, since we can no longer take them.

They most likely used Tegaderm. Thankfully, I found out pre-op that I'm allergic to it. I called the surgeon's office and let them know. My IV was held on with so much paper tape I looked like a mummy. My surgeon uses glue for the incisions, so there were no problems with that, thank God.
