Two Week Follow up
Yesterday I had my two week (2.5 weeks actually) follow up apt with my surgeon. Everything went very well. I will admit that one of my biggest fears was that I would go through all of this and not lose a pound. I was pleasantly surprised to discover I lost 20 (bringing me down to 304 and almost into the 2's). I've been cleared to eat real food again which I am really looking forward to. I was told to make an appointment in about 2.5 months for the follow up with labs.
One thing that I did find over the last couple of weeks is that I don't tolerate the protein shakes. I've tried a few different kinds (e.g. GNC, Syntrex (matrix and nectar) and they all cause me sever bloating, bad gas, and finally diarrhea and will turn an "I feel good today" into a "just want to crawl back to bed" day. Wanting to keep the protein up, over the weekend, I did try an Atkins bar (17 grams protein) and chewed it till it dissolved. Those don't seem to cause me distress.
Otherwise, I haven't really found any foods that bother me too much which I am thankful for. The digestive issues (gas, a bit of gurgles, etc) seems to still be a part of the process but are getting better. Each day continues to get a little better and I feel more normal, but still get a little tired. I've been cleared to go back to work next week and I am actually looking forward to getting back to my normal routine.
I'm 2 weeks out as well and heading to the dr. For my 2 week post-op in an hour from now. I'm having the same trouble with the shakes. I have been gurgling since 8am this morning since drinking a shake. It's not really burping, just a loud persistent gurgling coming up my throat and a sickish feeling in my belly. So I can certainly sympathize with you. I'm actually kind of glad it's happening right now so the Dr can hear it, though I'm sure she's heard it before... Good luck to you on your journey and congrats on your 20 lb loss.

I do that pre-surgery if I make the shakes with milk. Any kind. I switched to soy milk and I don't have that problem. I'm hoping that holds up after surgery as well :)
I have read on these forums that some people became Lactose Intolerant after the surgery. I wonder if that is what is going on with you?
