Hi....I'm new...I just joined.

I am scheduled for RNY surgery on April 14th and am a combination of excited and nervous, if that makes sense.  Since my initial consult with my surgeon in January I have lost  seven pounds.  At least it's a start, but I am not sure how to note that on the ticker. I started with my highest weight.

Anyway, I just wanted to say hi and see if there was anyone else getting surgery around the same time as I am.

Welcome Gillian!!

Congrats on starting your journey.

Being nervous and excited at the same time is completely normal. It's one of those times in life that seem to drag on forever, but speed by too quickly at the same time. I am 9 months out and it's crazy how quickly the time has gone by since my surgery.

This forum is a great place to get support. There are a lot of smart, successful vets of 5+ years out on this board and they dispense some really great advice.

I wish you smooth sailing and much success in this new chapter of your life!

Welcome. This site is amazing with a great group of vets and newbies to help you on your journey. I think it is fairly normal to be nervous before surgery. I was so nervous I almost cancelled my date, and might have had I not been having severe issues with my lap band and needed to have it removed. Sounds like you are doing great with your pre op work and before you know it, you'll be on the loser's bench with the rest of us. Best of luck to you!!

Thanks for the great welcome!  It's so nice to *see* other people in the same situation as me...and further ahead on their goals.

Your nerves are completely normal. I was so nervous I almost cancelled but am so glad I didn't. I went from 258.5 to 123 in a bit less than 8 months and have stayed there ever since. My health issues are resolved and I am a normal size for the first time in my life! Welcome and keep reading and posting as you can.

Hi Gillian,

I am 3 months out and I am down 30 pounds since the surgery and 40 pounds total.  It was the hardest thing I have ever done, but I would do it again in a heart beat.  I feel so much better and I am looking forward to my new normal life.

Welcome, Gillian!

I am glad you found your way here. Congratulations on your upcoming surgery. I am a four months out and it is the BEST decision I have made in regards yo my health and happiness!

Spend some time here reading, asking questions, and educating yourself as much as possible before surgery. I learned more about the day-to-day aspects of living with my rearranged anatomy than I did from my surgeon. The vets that frequent the board have a plethora of experience, advice, patience, and realism.

Best wishes on your new adventure!
