I had surgery 6 days ago and am having a very hard time keeping the clear liquids in. i was getting 30oz every day till today when i have only been able to get 10oz in. i am so nauseous to the point that i think i will throw up if i drink anything. Any suggestions of what to do to help get the liquids in without feeling like i am going to throw up?

Nausea is quite common.  You need to call your doctor's office and get a prescription for nausea phoned in for you.  It will get better.

try tiny sips of warm water. I sipped on chicken broth warmed up. You can Use popsicles too.

Sugar free Popsicles also seem to be much better than plain water.  I agree... If the Zofran isn't helping, call tomorrow a sad ask for something else.  There about a hundred different anti-nausea meds!

I hope you feel better soon.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.

I am so sorry you're struggling. Unfortunately, as you become dehydrated you also become more nauseated, it's a vicious cycle. Have you tried any sugar free flavoring in your water, like crystal light or MIO? I had a hard time with plain water and used a little bit of flavoring because I don't like a strong flavor. I've read some people have difficulties with certain temperatures, so maybe try a variety ranging from hot to ice cold. I also agree that the SF Popsicles were helpful to me.

I avoided anti-nausea meds as much as I could because they have always made me constipated, which makes me more nauseous. That being said, I agree with the other posters...give your surgeon a call tomorrow and see what he recommends. If you can't get in touch with them you can always call your PCP.

Hope you feel better very soon.

Dehydration can cause nausea it's a catch 22 you don't want to drink because you are nauseated, you need to drink are you will be nauseated.

Have you tried different temps of liquids?  Maybe sip on hot tea. Peppermint tea was very helpful for nausea for me early out.

Call your surgeon tomorrow to discuss this concern IV fluids may be needed already.
