Sounds like plantar fasciitis.  There are exercises for it.  Google it.  I had the same problem from running and with the exercises it went away and never returned. WebMD  Check the link there.  Hope it will help.

I suggest seeing your doctor.  Is there no way they can get you in sooner?  That's more than two weeks away.

Get a good pair of running shoes;  I had a fitting at a great shop which not only did a computer analysis of my footfall patterns, it diagnosed a particular problem I was having with turning my foot a certain way, and then recommended a good shoe support.  You'll be amazed at how good your feet will feel.  It was all part of buying the right pair of shoes and was not an extra charge.

Either plantar fascitis or something do with your arches. I have to wear arch supports in my running shoes because I have high arches. I can tell you what to do in the meantime. Take those little dixie cups (not the teeny tiny ones, but probably 8 oz paper ones) fill with water and put in freezer. Take out at night, peel off paper and roll your  foot on top of it. It gives you an ice massage, and feels really good. THey will tell you to do it any way for the plantar facitis or arch issues. I would also make sure to wear good soled supportive shows from now until your Dr's appointment, that will at least give you some support, and you will probably have to stay off it until then. NSAIDS would help too, but since we aren't allowed to take them.

I am editing to add that yes frozen water bottle. Got confused on the frozen items being that the paper cup one is for shoulder massaging.

Go to a running store and get better shoes. The money you spend on good shoes is totally worth it.

I also had good luck freezing a water bottle and rolling my foot over it.

My podiatrist prescribed a topical cream for the tendinitis in my ankle. It was made by a special compounding company and has ibuprofen and lidocaine in it, that goes right to the site of the pain. Works wonderfully!  I've had plantar fascitis too; a night splint helps to keep it stretched while sleeping; google it and you will find different kinds to try.  Good luck!

After RNY we can't even use topical NSAIDS.  Are you aware of this?

Come keep it real in R&R 3.0 Want an invite? PM me here.

No, I wasn't aware. It makes no sense since I am putting it on my ankle and it's not penetrating my stomach/pouch. I am seeing the NP in Friday; I'll ask her and get back to you. Do you have any written documentation to support that?

Freeze a water bottle (almost full), then roll your bare foot on it. This won't cure plantar fasciitis, but sure helps with the pain temporarily.

The advice given above - to get really top notch shoes and maybe arch supports or orthotics - is exactly right. There are also some good stretching exercises you can look up online.

Good luck to you, and stay away from the ibuprofen, advil and naproxen!
