Waiting for normal...
Surgery was three weeks and one day ago. I'm back to work. Back to life and taking care of everyone else! You know the saying "people don't change?" Well what if that's true? I have yet to measure my foods. I am just eating until "satisfied." If I know what that means. I lost 12 pounds in my two week preop diet. Now I've only lost 12 pounds in three weeks postop. How can that be? And when oh when do we feel normal again? Like not obsessed with eating and taking vitamins and sipping water and the like. I don't like thinking of this stuff 24/7.

Only 12 pounds in 3 weeks? That's 4 pounds a week! That's super awesome!! How fast were you expecting to lose?

I guess since I lost 12 pounds in my first two weeks preop I thought it would come off faster afterwards. I don't know! I guess since I haven't seen the scale move daily I've been disappointed. But you're right, 12 pounds in 3 weeks is still good!

Measuring food is defiantly a good thing to try working on. Pardon my phrasing but i was a measuring Nazi I had everything to a T. You are also at the stage (between the 2 and 4 week post) where weight loss will stall TRUST me you will start to loose again don't let that stress you. As for normal you probably won't every fully go back to normal because this is a New lifelong goal so you will have to make a "new" normal. The obsession issue will get better, rather than being an obsession it will just turn into routine and become part of your "new" normal.
Hope everything works out for you sooner than later and wishing you the best of luck!
Okay so I have to change my thinking. New normal. I like that. Thank you!

11 months post op.
There are some RNY bloggers that write it takes about 1-2 years and one has reached goal. It takes one awhile to transition from RNY-er to other interests.
Now- to preach (just a bit). Consider measuring your food. Nerves may have been cut/stapled/injured in remodeling your stomach to a pouch. DUe to this, you may not experience restriction/fullness for a long time. Some of the vets talk about how they didnt feel restriction until around the 6 month mark. Peripheral nerves only heal a quarter of a mm per MONTH (per my back surgeon..i wanted to know WHEN I would feel my feet again...and it took about a year). So please consider measuring.
As far as sipping water...you should do that forever. My bariatric surgeon constantly reminds me that RNY'ers are prone to dehydration more than non-operated people. So, tha****er bottle is going to be your new life long friend!

You've been given great advice -- but also consider this: your old "normal" got you to 255 lbs.
Embrace the new normal. You're doing an amazing job so far!

Congratulations on your 12 pound loss....that is a lot of weight to lose in 3 weeks. I am nearly 15 months post-op, and I still measure and weigh my food. I track everything that I eat on My Fitness Pal. I feel that this is what has led to my success, and thatitI will continue to keep me successful in the long term. This is my new normal.
