ONEderland!!!! Finally! (and confessing a struggle)

I am 3 months and 10 days post-op. I had hoped to get below 200 by the three month mark, but am hitting it a little later. Thats ok, because I am here!

I am having some challenges with getting my protein to the required amount right now since we returned to our home in South Asia. Unfortunately I have zero access to protein supplements and try as I may, I just struggle eating enough to get the 60g of protein. I am coming in around 50 most days by eating as much chicken as I can get down.

Congratulations!

Protein can sometimes be a struggle even with access to supplements and all kinds of protein, so I can imagine it's tricky for you.

can you get any protein powders shipped in reasonably priced Internationally? South Asia is a big area, but if you are in a more vegetarian part,  you might want to look at yogurt and cheese based dishes, dhal or other beans to help keep you from getting chicken-ed out haha, or if you're on a coast, branching out to some seafood. or tofu. Or lamb and goat. As long as it fits your overall calorie goal, you can have higher fat proteins without derailing. And some higher carb sources of protein too.

It's better than burning out on chicken, and turning to more starches to change things up.

Having said all that, you are doing great! You know what works for you, I only suggested the above because sometimes people get caught up thinking they should only have a few specific things, whereas I believe the more varied the diet, the better.

keep it up!

Thanks so much Insert Fitness!

I really appreciate the feedback. I cannot get any powders sent or anything like that, but you are right about branching out to dahl and tofu. I can actually buy frozen fish even though we are in the mountains. I need to work out variety for sure. Maybe I can even learn how to make greek yogurt!

Congrats on Onederland!

Maybe you could add some greek yogurt, peanut butter, cheese, dry milk powder, cottage cheese, canned fish, or eggs to your diet. These are all non-chicken sources of protein. You might have to get creative! Don't despair, you can do it. :)

Congratulations on ONEderland!!!!!

I have tried to not put time limits on my goals, because then I get derailed and feel like I have failed (obviously there is the 12-18 month limit of surgery benefits that I've kept in mind the entire journey, but if I don't hit a certain number by a certain day, then it's OK).

No real help here with the protein, but maybe just add in more seafood... it's not quite as dense, and you might get more in, thus upping your protein levels? I struggle with protein numbers myself... it's hard!

Thank you. This is good feedback. I am prone to set this type of goal and then get discouraged over it. I do have that fear in the back of my mind that in 6 months I am not going to have this opportunity again (meaning the surgery benefits) and that scares me.

I was thinking fish or tuna. You could buy canned tuna probably in the city and take it home.
