Has anyone ever tried fasting after WLS? Are we allowed? Is it healthy?

I know that some people fast for any number of reasons, weight loss, religious practice, etc. Personally, I think that fasting, especially fasts where no fluids are taken in, isn't healthy for post-WLS folks. Most of us have food issues anyway and need to focus on nourishing our bodies in a balanced and healthy manner, not going to either extreme, severe restriction or binging.

There is plenty out there about "pouch resetting" by only drinking shakes. The problem is that after the first few weeks post-op, we need dense protein to stay healthy and feel satisfied.

I think that doing AMAW or CAMAW or some version of healthy eating is really important. Reducing portion size, restricting carbs/sugar, etc. are more balanced ways of resetting bad eating habits that have crept in.

This is of course just my experience and opinion...

I have friends that do these 36 hour fasts to "cleanse" the body of toxins or such and I was just wondering if anyone knew if we were "allowed" to do something like that or it it was healthy?

Yes, I know that "cleansing" fasts and such are very popular but I have never seen any evidence that they are useful to anyone, especially WLS folks. If you want to cleanse, increase your clear fluids, nix the carbs (except maybe non-starchy veg), skip processed foods, reduce sodium. That is healthy and nutritious for anyone.

Cleanses are crap (lol, sometimes literally - I mean MOM is "cleanse" too - even if it's not a GOOP approved jade egg-herby wonder style). I think that's true WLS or no WLS.

nobody needs to fast to "cleanse" their body. Our bodies are expert at cleansing themselves without any help from us. Cleanses are a fad, nothing more.

You are over 3 years out, correct? Then go ahead and fast. At this point, you are really no different than anyone else. Just drink enough during your fast.

If you were a new postop, I wouldn't suggest fasting beyond a normal overnight. Youd need the regular protein to continue healing and filling daily needs.

Let me ask...why would you do a cleansing fast? What are you trying to achieve other than the fact that they are pop nutrition? If you get enough fluids and some fiber and limit your super processed foods, what are you cleansing from? Just curious.

IDK..I just have friends that are doing it and I was just curious..I haven't done a lot of research on why its done or what exactly you are cleansing tbh...I think it has something to do with toxins...I was just curious if anyone had tried it or had heard anything about it with WLS..
