Hello

I wonder if anyone can help me.
The recommendation for bypass is
one Centrum pill a day or two pills
a day?

Thanks

I think that people that don't take Bariatric vitamins generally take two Centrum Silver daily.

The baseline recommendation is for 200 percent of the recommended daily allowance of all vitamins and minerals.

With Centrum and some others that would be 2 power day. With some lower quality vitamins it can be as many as 8 per day. Some, including most children's vitamins, are lacking several things entirely, and are no good for us.

200 percent is the initial recommendation. Many of us need even more of specific things, most often B12, D3, and iron.

Yearly lab work is the only way to truly know what we need.

If I am remembering correctly, you are almost 2 years out. Hopefully you have had a full set of labs done recently to determine how your levels are. Most of us take 2 multivitamins a day.

I just had my labs done. They look 15 vials of blood.

Hello Laura,

Can you send me a copy of what they test you for? I dont think my PCP is doing it correctly. I had RNY 7 months ago.

Thank you so much,

I agree with Grim with the recommendations needed to not be daily deficient.

I was informed by my surgeon that with bypass, understandably, there is a lot less stomach acids that are needed to breakdown a traditional "non bariatric" vitamin... and it's a running joke that the average adult ends up dispensing said hard capsule vitamin and generously offering it to the porcelain gods... so, It's going to be even more difficult for us with our new-found anatomy to break down so its up to us to give ourselves as much help as possible.

I will absolutely add that if you are getting regular labwork and your numbers are good with the Centrum amd food intake, keep on keepin' on ;) because the last thing you want is to be in a state of deficiency.

I do know some vitamin orgs will send out samples if contacted =)

Very few of us take bariatric vitamins long term. We absorb vitamins from regular tablets and capsules just fine. Its not an issue, at all.

Calcium carbonate is notable for not being absorbed without stomach acid. That's why even non-WLSers need to rake calcium carbonate with meals, not on an empty stomach. But calcium citrate is absorbed by us very well, in any form.
