I ate pork during the full liquid stage!
I know, it was so stupid! I don't know what got into me. I didn't take the post-op diet seriously enough until now and I'm so afraid I've done some damage. I emailed my Dr. and told him what I did and I'm waiting on a response but in the meantime I want to make sure anyone that is considering surgery knows that the post-op diet is a matter of life and death and is very serious! I can't explain away my behavior except to say that I must be completely out of my mind, with no food! This is the hardest thing I've ever done. If anyone can offer anything, please do.
I did it last Sunday, 8 days post op. I'm having some pain since, but I can't say it's not gas or acid indigestion. It's mostly under the tip of my ribs on the left hand side and some in my abdomen. I can distinguish between muscle pain and general achyness from surgery. Also, I have a low grade fever of around 96. consistently. Thank you all so much in advance. Leigh Ann
OOh, Leigh, so sorry. Hopefully you can get away witout having done any damage and you'll serve to be a shining example for other newbies. I have no ideas for you, I think only your doctor can help with this one!
And don't be too hard on yourself, if your brain was THAT easy to control you likely wouldn't be where you are at today!
Those little gremlins that tell us to eat are tenacious little critters and it'll take you a while to tell them that now YOU are in control of THEM, not vice versa!
I'll be sending you good thoughts.
Are you having any pain? If you're having pain or any other alarming symptoms, I'd go to the ER or call the doctor and have him paged rather than waiting on an email. If you're feeling OK, hopefully it will go on through without damage. Take a deep breath and relax if you're not in pain. Bless your heart. I'll pray that everything is fine. (((((((Leigh Ann))))))))
Suasan, I was told any time something doesn't feel right to call the Dr. If nothing else this will be a huge lesson and I bet you stick to the diet from now on huh? It is very hard to do, that's for sure. We are all human, and I guarantee, you aren't the first one to goof. Keep us informed with what you find out, please.
First of all, like everyone else said, if you have some unexplained pain, it's best to check with a doctor. We're just all giving opinions, so here is mine. I think if you chewed well, and only ate a little of it, you probably didn't do any damage. Maybe now you are just having pain caused by being scared and worried. When you are worried, every little pain seems huge. Also, a low grade fever (less than 100) is normal after surgery. I had a fever for a few days after surgery. I'm not sure how long it is normal for that to last. If it goes over 101, get to a doctor fast. (By the way, 96 isn't a fever. Was that a typo?) Anyway, check with your doctor, mostly so you can quit worrying.
Susan
My fingers are crossed for you sister! How are you feeling today? I read back through the sleeve diet info and you do have some warning signs. Some could be from lack of protein, though, since you're having trouble keeping it down. It's gonna be ok. What has Susan said? If Dr. A gets back and you go again, I'll meet you there. Spirits up, girl, you're gonna get through this! Dorothy
