I have a whole tub of JRobb unflavored protein powder that I'd like to start using for my coffee in the morning. I tried using it once in soup & it clumped badly. So what's the trick?? Thanks!

I put my protien in coffee also. But it has to be cold. If you put it in hot stuff it won't desolve. I just put my instant coffee in a shaker and add a little hot tap water just to desolve the coffee. then I add ice and my protien and water or 1% milk and shake. Hope this helps.

Oh..what an excellent idea! I was thinking about how I was going to give up my coffee because of the milk....I use skim milk plus anyway...but such a great way to get the protein in!

Thanks for the tip!

I make protein coffee every morning.  Once I was running late and just rushing to get out the door and added the protein before adding ice - and it clumped and was nasty.
I really dont like my coffee cold.  I add about 3 ice cubes per hot cup of coffee which is enough to cool it down to avoid the clumping.  It brings it to about room temp.

I don't drink coffee, but I do make a protein hot chocolate drink. Add some warm coffee with protein in a shaker bottle. Shake well, pour into cup, then add hot coffee to it while stirring. I've also reheated it in microwave after doing this and I've had no problems. Seems you have to get it dissolved first and stir while adding hot. Works for me every time!

just mix that powder in with some milk or something room temp or cold, mix well until it is all incorporated, then add the incorporated mixture into your hot coffee, stirring as you add.

protein powders will clump in hot liquids over 130f if they are added as powder.

Thanks for asking this... I have not figured it out and have been wondering this myself.

According to the answers... I have been using coffee that was too hot.  I will try it again tomorrow but this time I will use cold milk first.

coffee can't be more than 130 degrees or something like that. so i cool mine a little with milk and then add the protein powder. and mix it in with a whisk. otherwise it just doesn't mix well. if its lukewarm you can nuke it for 15 or 20 seconds - just be careful not to overdo it.

i make protein coco this way too. heat the skim milk before you put any protein in and use a whisk.

I have found the same thing. Add it to coffee that is too hot and it is nasty. I get my coffee and take a few sips while it cools. Then I stir it in after it has cooled just a bit. Once it is mixed you can top it off with hot coffee.

I use the chocolate protein powder so it is like hot chocolate or mocha.

I just mix my protein with some cream and sweetener in my travel mug. Then I either add the hot coffee at home, stirring while I add it, or I have the barista at the coffee shop top up the mug with brewed coffee. So far, no problems with clumping of protein.

The only problem I haveonce in a while is that the baristas always think that I have the dregs of coffee in my mug, rather than lovely chocolate protein, and try to rinse out the mug before adding coffee!
