The Lap-Band gets a lousy review - surprise, surprise
We have been hearing from friends, family and members on here about how bad this procedure is. Studies are beginning to confirm it.

Had it, loved it, it slipped, surgeon removed it and sleeved me. If I had the two to choose from in the beginning I would have been sleeved long ago! My poor hubby still has his. It has a leak and he's regained all his weight. Now we need to find time for him to take off work and get the dumb thing OUT and hopefully sleeved.
Heather, one of my friends had the band, it slipped and she got revised to gastric bypass and, within a year was doen 136 lbs. She had only lost about 49 on the band and was always miserable. Another friend had it, hasn't had a fill in forever. She started at 280, went to 230 and is back up to 250. She is too tight to eat in the morning, and deals with foamies too often. A co-worker got it and lost almost 100 lbs. before everything started going haywire and he finally had it removed. He's tried very hard to keep it off, and even got a recumbent bike, but has admitted that he's making bad food choices again. And it shows.
My husband saw something on TV about how many lapbands are being removed WHILE I was at the bariatric center getting mine REMOVED!! He said he looked over at the receptionist, but she was busy on the computer--he wanted to point it out to her so badly. There were so many people being banded at the center today; I just hope they do better than I did (or really, it did).

It was killing me in the hospital when my roommate told me that she just got the band. She was just so happy about it. She had 3 options to choose from: band, vsg or rny. She's older, maybe early 60's, and 360 lbs (I heard her tell the nurse). She kept telling people that she thinks the band will be a good thing. I truly hope that it will be for her. But, I knew it wasn't a good sign when she asked the nurse if she could have ice cream soon.
Yup, that's why I'm being revised to VSG in less than 36 hours. Band is bad. If I'd have known all of the freaking problems, or that the first year would be good, with a 50 lbs. loss, but the next 1.8 years would suck and I'd gain back 30 lbs...I would have never had it to begin with. Wish I'd done more research in '08.
