Ehhh, I call b.s. but that's based on my experience. If the surgery is performed properly, there is no way to stretch out the stomach tissue that is left behind to pre-op size.

I'm almost 23 months out, and take normal bites, and do not chew everything to mush, and still have amazing restriction. If I chew super slow, and to mush, I can actually fit more food in. It's an easy way for me to fit more food (which means more calories) in at each meal. My capacity has changed from what I could eat at 2 months out, but back then I was barely able to eat 2oz of mushy food. Today, I still can not eat an entire chicken breast. I hit a max capacity at about 4oz of dense protein. I stick to 2-3oz of protein and add in veggies and/or carbs.

In this verse you'll be taught how to chew.
When consuming your fare le menu,
Don't just swallow (gulp, gulp!);
First convert it to pulp,
With your molars (incisors won't do)!

  If it feels good, do it!  And if it smells good, eat it!

I call BS too. You should chew your food well for a variety of reasons, but, even if the sleeve could stretch out a lot (which it can't -- there's a limit to how far you can stretch tissue), it would be from eating TOO MUCH, not from eating big pieces.

IOW, you can chew your food really well and still eat too much.

First and foremost THANK you for coming here and sharing when you heard at your support group.

There is a TON (pun intended) of information out there and ULTIMATELY you will learn first hand what is real and what can't possibly be TRUE.  Doctor's are on the OUTSIDE merely LOOKING in and trying their best to deciminate information etc etc.

I believe your doctor is trying to PROMOTE eating your food completely and allowing your mouth and saliva to do the JOB it was meant to do BEFORE we started overconsuming and just SHOVELING food into our mouths.  Our salivas job is to break down the food, then going into out stomach yada yada but if we just barely chew then swallow well there you have it.  In addition it is believed (which I PERSONALLY have found to be true) that the SLOWER you eat your food the more satisfied you are and the whole if you take 20-30 minutes to eat you'll find yourself FULLER.  So if you take 10 minutes to eat 1/2 cup of food you don't always get that full signal but if you take the whole 20-30 minutes we are "told" then we are full.  PERHAPS this is what the doctor is trying to say.

As far as OUR surgery.  The more elastic part of our stomach is REMOVED forever so it's LESS like to stretch over time.  RnYers pouches are made FROM the elastic part of the stomach which can stretch.  In addition their stoma (the false opening at the bottom) is also prone to OPENING wide and yes that is probably from big pieces of food trying to pass through.

In short...I call BS too =)

In short again...absorb...listen...read...and LIVE because what applies to YOU won't apply to everyone else.

I'm with the others..I call B.S. too.  I eat exactly the same amount that I could at 10 months out.  I take big bites and eat quickly.  I'm not all that interested in food to sit and linger over a meal any more.  My capacity is 2 - 3 oz of lean meat and 1/3 cup of veggies.  Same as it's been for a long time.  Why would I want to sit and chew and take a long time to eat when that would allow me to eat more.  I like to get it over with and move on...don't really give a **** about food anymore : )
