I know fiber bloats you up. Would it hurt my sleeve if I take the full dose? I been using 1/4 of teas about every time I eat and drink. I try my best to get my water and protein in. I feel like a air ballon ready to float to the sky.
I thank you all so very much for answering my blog. God Bless, please say a prayer.

I've been taking 2 teaspoons of Benefiber 2x a day since a few days after I got home from the hospital.  I never felt bloated from it.  I mix it with water or tea.  I like the Benefiber better than the Metamucil. I think it mixes better and doesn't get thick after awhile.

I don't think you should be taking it every time you drik. Read the directions ...probably 2 x day at most. Be careful.....one extreme to the other is NO FUN!!!

My surgeon told me not to take any fiber yet.  That was at my 6 weeks appt.  I didn't think to ask him when I could take it.  I don't know what his reasoning is.

Crunchy As Can Be

Check with your surgeon's office, but for constipation you can also take Docusate 100mg (either the liquid formula or the liquid-gels which are very small and dissolve quickly). These are stool softeners and should not be used long term (as in longer than several weeks) but I have patients that take up to 600mg (two caps three times daily) for awhile then progress to 100mg daily when they become more regular and their stools pass more easily. This medication however is NOT FIBER and should not be used to substitute for fiber-- only to help get things moving postoperatively or for short-term constipation.

My dietician recommended the Benefiber powder as well as it dissolves clear and can be added to any liquid, including the protein shakes, but I'm not sure if you have to wait a certain amount of time post-op to start taking it.

Good luck!
