5 day report on boosting protein to over 110 grams/day

After a 5 week stall, on 60 grams/day, I decided to really up my protein, after reading all the "old-timers" and high weight loss people here on this forum.  Today was the 5th day of high protein intake.  I lost about 1 1/2-2 lbs per day for the first 4 days and then this morning was down a lb.  So, a total loss of around 8-9 lbs since I started this experiment.  I bought a food scale yesterday and realized I was eating more ounces than thought.  ie, more protein than I thought.  Yesterday, I kinda overdid, and consumed 128 grams of protein.  And still lost 1 lb.  This is working for me and I so wanted to share it with you.  It remains to be seen if it lasts, or is a temporary drop in the bucket.  Will report again.  Someone asked me if I had room for vegies and fruits.  Basically, no.  I manage to get a minuscle amount of vegies in every day, but have not had fruit or carbs for a very long time.

Thanks for the report out.  I've been looking for a way to increase my weight loss and it sounds like upping the protein count might be the trick.

I'm upping my protein to 110+ grams as of today too to break this slump i'm in. What are you eating? Are you doing it all through shakes?

Hi Kelley!  I do a fortified protein shake every morning now (protein powder, 4 oz milk, 1 protein shake---all in blender).  I have a set routine.  Up, weigh, drink coffee, take supplements, 20 minutes on treadmill, fortified protein shake, then eat 1 egg with cheese.  Then the rest of the day it is more meat, fish, eggs, cheese, a few vegies thrown in.  I am also up to about 80-90 ounces of fluids per day.  I am not deviating from this routine as it seems to be working for me.  I am keeping my fingers crossed it continues to be the magic formula for me.  I am over 60 years old and weight loss for me is agonizingly slow, so to lose 1-2 lbs per day for the last 5 days is truly phenomenal.   I am 4 months out and have lost 63 pounds.  Let me know how it goes for you.  And the very best of good luck to you too!

Based on your previous post I boosted my protein to 100 grams yesterday and BAM a 2 pound loss this morning!  I am stoked as I had been on a 5 week stall getting in about 70 grams per day.  I just added a 30 gram shake about an hour before bedtime.  Thanks SO much for posting this!!!

Hey Beth---FANTASTIC!  Man, the personal testimonials are starting to roll in about doubling your protein intake.  Try to up your water too, I think it synergistically helps with the higher protein.  We all need to continue to observe, keep our fingers crossed, and see if this is a permanent answer to our stalls.  Lovin our sleeves though!!!!!

I "accidentally" boosted my protein yesterday... I drank two protein drinks because they tasted good!! LOL! Anyway, I am down two pounds this morning!! Broke through 170 and am currently at 168! Woot woot! I'm doing that again, today... Bet on it!

Congratulations on finding the magic combo for you. Hope it continues to work for all of us!

What kind of protein drink tasted good? I hate those things and most of them I have tried make me have the runs. Most embarrassing in public.

Just discovered the EAS AdvantEDGE premixed shakes! I love them! They really are not too thick and taste very much like regular chocolate milk. Yum!

Happy and Jeni,
Are you counting calories as well?? I'm just curious about where it stands. My Nutritionist wants me to take in no more than 800 calories a day. It's a constant struggle to balance the cals and protein. 2 Protein drinks are around 460 calories. It doesn't leave a lot of room for food left in the day and I just don't think I can survive on drinking the majority of my cals in drink form.

Please let me know what your thoughts are!!??

Heidi

Edited to add I am in a major slump/stall and haven't lost since April 22nd.
