Appendicitis post gastric sleeve
Hello,
I have a question for everyone who has gastric sleeve surgery. I am from the lap band board but dont know much about the sleeve. A close friend of mine had the gastric sleelve in March, she developed appendicits within 5 days of surgery and the surgeon said that is common. I have never heard of that and wanted to know if any of you have heard that or even experienced that after surgery.
Thank you

I got my sleeve about a year ago and have been researching and studying this procedure for about a year and a half, i am on these boards all the time and i have never heard anyone have appendcitis. Lots of people have gallbladder issues but never heard of appendicitis. Very strange, seems i would have heard mention of it as i am on here everyday lol my cross addiction :o) jeani
I have not heard that......HOWEVER...... since around 5 days post op for me ( 3months ago ) I have had chronic pain in the area of appendix/ pelvic region that increasing gets worse. I had a CT Scan and a MRI and 2 Ultra sounds......all inconclusive. CT scan showed a OV Cyst, but other tests didn't. Kinda a mystery....I always describe the pain as like having a appendicitis attack.
Was it her appendix? A leak? Keep us posted if she's ok.

I had my surgery on January 16, 2015, I just stumbled upon this question on google while looking for an answer myself. I am now 8mo post op and just developed appendicitis and had an emergency appendectomy yesterday. The only thing that I can think of that would relate the two would be that after weightless surgery you have a higher risk of of constipation and/or a bowel obstruction. Appendicitis is commonly a result of a hard piece of stool that breaks off and becomes lodged in the opening of the appendex, causing a build up of mucus which causes inflammation. I can see how/why the two can be related.
