Is cheese considered dairy or protein??

I vaguely remember talking about this at one of my doctor's appt, but can't exactly remeber what they said. I thought I was doing good with my dairy intake w/all the cheese that I eat, but I believe they said it was considered a protein?? I think we talked about this subject because I wasn't eating enough yogurt/milk & that I had a misconception about what food group the cheese was actually in?? Please help me folks! I know this is probably a dumb question, but thanks in advance:)

Cheese is "officially" dairy but also a great source of protein.

Protien.

Dr. Kim's office does not consider generic "Cheese" a 'dairy' for purposes of getting two to three dairy servings a day. The reason for that is some cheese does not have a lot of calcium in it. Swiss cheese is an exception. 2oz of swiss cheese has more calcium than an 8 oz glass of milk. I eat the Publix brand cut up into cubes almost every day.

I cannot stomach a lot of milk, so I take extra calcium, as well.

Krazydoglady, that's exactly what I was referring to! I know cheese is obviously both dairy & protein, but wasn't sure what our doctor considered it as in regards to our required daily intake. Thanks!
