Dr. appointment tomorrow, what should I be asking?

Tomorrow is my first doctors appointment since they took my band, and after really talking it out with my husband, I have decided to go with the sleeve.

I am going to be pushing hard tomorrow to start the process towards getting a date for my surgery and all that that entails. Is there any specific questions I should be asking, anything you would have liked to have been able to ask before your own surgery?

I love reading all the great posts on here, it has really helped me make my decision and I am so motivated to get this journey started!

Here is a VSG faq site that has a lot of info for new people considering VSG surgery, or already having the surgery. There are a couple of links to question you might ask your prospective surgeon. http://vsgfaq.wordpress.com/

I am curious as to what others will say. I had my band removed last summer, went to Seminar last week and am waiting for my call back to see the surgeon.

I wish you luck:)

Might ask what size the sleeve will be (bougee) and whether they take out the gall bladder as a matter of routine. Also will you be on liquid for two weeks pre op? Hope this helps.

What his/her personal success rate with with the VSG procedure is......

His/her statistics should be in the neighborhood of 80% EWL similar to RNY.

If he/she starts out with.... "Well, the procedure is very new"............run.....find somebody else with more seat time.

After care?

I would ask about  when they do the leak test and how often.  How long is the normal stay in the hospital if everything goes alright. Will you be sent home with a drain or will it come out before you come home. What kind of pain meds should you expect to be given.  These are just a few that I asked. Hope this helped
