Why do people go to Under Qualified Surgeons?

Okay, now that I've had a good laugh (Thanks guys)....

I understand your frustration, Frisco, but you must realize that not everyone has access to top notch surgeons.  Many people don't have the time and/or money to fly across the country/world to have a super-star surgeon perform their surgery, so they have to go with the best available within their means.  Sometimes it's better to take a risk than keep struggling through a life of super morbid obesity.

Now, as far as those people who don't read or ask their surgeon's office for instructions on post-op eating, there's just no excuse.

Hey Chungs,

Point well taken...can't argue....

But, I'll add this...... If one were to say put enough "Value" on the procedure and what a major effect it could have on your life and perhaps is a procedure that could extend your life......would it be worth the time and/or money and effort to seek out that super-star surgeon?

Not arguing..... just a point....

It would be worth the money if you have the money. Most of us don't have that much. I couldn't have done this if I'd even had a substantial copay - mine was $300.

The economy is in the tank. Many of us feel lucky just to have insurance and our heart breaks for those who don't even have that. But money to fly away and recoup at a distant hospital. Nope. Not happening for a lot of us.

Yup..... In this economy most of us must prioritize and unfortunately in a lot of cases WLS comes after food, roof over your head, kids..... life......

I was going to post a comment agreeing with you. But I decided not to. I was going to say there are a lot of really dumb .....

Oops. Never mind... I get too crabby and post some kind of snarky replies to the same tired old questions. I do, however, suggest they use the search feature to look up the answer to a question that was just asked for the millionth time. Don't mind me......did I just say that out loud?

LMAO jfab...

I could not agree with you more Firsco.. I know people on here, that have asked those questions about  what should they eat.  And, that is AFTER they have gone to the WLS seminars at their hospitals..

The hospital I had my surgery is a teaching hospital, and the doctor that I had is not a resident, there was a resident in the room when he was performing my operation..

It is unfortunate as well that there are people out there, that can not afford this surgery much less to fly somewhere to get a great surgeron.. I am lucky enough to have two great surgerons in New Orleans here.

Both of them have done numerous sleeves, bypasses and bands.  And I can not complain, I had a wonderful recovery, and am doing well on weight loss.

I went to a seminar at a hospital that has been picked a Center of Excellence.  The only thing they tell you is dont eat sugar, don't eat carbs!!! don't eat empty calories.  yea... that's all great but please don't come down on those of us that might ask... What should I be eating.  yea... we all know protein ,protein, protein!!!  I get tired of eating sliced meat from the deli or pieces of chicken with a veggie!  It might be very helpful if you guys might suggest a meal that you like that helped yourself during that phase of the diet plan. I haven't had surgery yet, I am scheduled for 08-18-11 and sure, I might be one of those that might ask for a suggestion or two on meal options. THAT DOESN'T MEAN THAT I'M A DUMB PATIENT OR DIDN'T HAVE A GREAT SURGEON!!!

You asked. Here's a good place to start. This blog has been suggested time and time again. Here it is, again. Google may be your friend when it comes to WLS recipes. Have you tried it? There's also a very good search feature at the top of this page. I found a lot of very useful information just by searching for it on my own.
