Hurt myself last night, advice would be great!

 My biggest incision was made over my old port incision (from my band) which has been opened twice in less then four months (for my band removal and then for my revision). Last night I jumped out of bed to yell at the dog who was drinking out of the toilet in my bathroom (stupid dog LOL), and I felt that incision pull and then start to burn. Now every time I move, cough, laugh or do anything else it burns or gives me a super sharp pain.

I have all four kids at home today, so I really don't want to end up running to my surgeons office just to have him tell me it's nothing, so any experience with this would be awesome!

Thanks.

Perhaps at least a phone call? I had the same pain after I slipped in puddle of water 2 weeks post op and the pain lasted about 1.5 weeks. Mine got so bad I had to go to urgent care and get pain meds though but I was told it would heal on its own.

 Thanks so much for the reply, if it's still bothering me in a bit I am going to call. I still have a ton of left over pain meds from my last two surgries, but I am reluctant to take it while I am home alone with the kids.

I had that burn and tug, but Dr. A had warned me that he hard stiched that incision to the abdominal wall for extra security and when it was healing up, it would pull and burn.  It takes your breath away, so I would call your doctor's office, but it sure sounds like the typical big incision stitch healing burn pain syndrome! :}

 Thanks for the reply! I have to wonder if my doc did the same hard stitch thing since this incision was kind of puckerd in like it was stitched down. Tonight is their late night, so I am going to wait for the hubs to get home and I am going to call.

As for the dog, she is SO gross, I actually brushed her teeth at 2 in the morning b/c she kisses on the kids and stuff and I was gagging just thinking about it LOL She doesn't usually go for the toilet, but she has kidney disease and I guess sometimes she gets desperate if someone forgets to fill her bowl before bed.

I have a larger incision right over the belly button- and it was puckered in a little too- it's the one that burns if I bend over at a sharp angle for any length of time. Early out it was worse, now, it's sometimes noticeable but not bad at all.. but I still feel it as I'm cleaning the litter boxes. Same deal- internal stitches + strain and stretching of bending and being right on a roll = burn (now only slight, early out- sharp!)

I was told eventually it will pass, likely as I get smaller and the stretching/pulling on it lessens. Just saw my pcp and he felt around on it and declared it healing very nicely.. so no worries. Just take it easy and talk to your doc..

 Do you have an abdominal binder?  Put it on to support your incisions while your abdominal wall is healing.  You could be working on a hernia and they are no fun.  If you don't have one start looking perhaps a hospital supply store.  I wore mine for about 4 weeks esp in the beginning and when I was doing stuff around the house.  I over did it in the beginning and had the same feeling.  I also tucked some iced in the area while the binder was on too which felt nice.  Take care of your abs.  Perhaps your surgeon should be informed also.  Good luck.
