I don't think its the women that people are judging.  I empathize with the women a great deal.  But I am critical of the show for how it exploits their size and doesn't present a realistic picture of what it is like to be obese.

To me, acceptance of obese people isn't shown by making a spectacle of it, like this show.  It is by including them in shows about other stuff, as people who are something more than just fat, where the fatness isn't even the topic.

And the bottom line is that obesity is a chronic health condition that will eventually kill you.  I don't think that it is right to try to glamorize living that way.  For every gamourous fun moment, there is one where the doctor is warning you about high cholesterol, or finding out you have diabetes, or realizing you can't sit down at a party because your butt doesn't fit in the chairs, or telling your kid you'll go to the waterpark another day...the list goes on.

Frisco,
I had to watch it to see what it was all about, too. The whole thing made me uneasy. It was explotive to me also. I think people are beautiful in every shape and size. When I was heavy
I never had an issues dating, and I was always confident in myself. At least thats what the outside world saw. Like USAF Wife, I met my Husband at my heaviest and we got married 3 years ago.
The show painted these women as fun and fat, but there was definitely an undertone of desperation.

I absolutely refuse to watch the Biggest Loser. They never show the REAL stats of what these people maintain 1 year out from their transformation.

The last stats I read (and I forgot to save the link) is that over the entire series, all contestants considered, all the weight lost, they have a 78% failure rate for all of their contestants be it they were voted off early on, or they made it to the end.

It's better than the 95% failure rate of just diet and exercise, but it's still a staggering failure rate.

I watched a couple of episodes of "Big Sexy" .  The first episode was kind of a tough pill to swallow.  They were trying to get into a bar and the bouncer told them they would  have to pay more to get in.  So basically showing that discrimination against fat people is ok? Are you serious??? I mean I do applaud their attitudes, but it is seriously like watching a train wreck.

It is kind of a sugar coated way to make being obese ok.

As a person who was there, and working her way out with her sleeve, I cant stand to see that show.  It really puts a bitter taste in my mouth.

Frisco your point about the Craft Services table hit home for me.  My son goes to NYU and wants to write for TV.  He did an internship this summer for a production company that filmed a tv show for Adult Swim on Cartoon Network, and one of his jobs was to set up the Craft Services Table.  Very cool job, not great side effects.

That 21 year old kid, who is about 20 pounds overweight, gained about 15 pounds this summer eating all the **** that he kept putting out on that table.  Cookies, donuts, chocolate, soda, OMG, it was a ******G FOOD ORGY!!!!  He is fighting to take off that weight because he now has acid reflux from the extra weight in his neck and belly.

While I applaud everyone for accepting who you are, I'm not so sure the girls are doing "big girls" any favors by filming the show.  I watched one episode and I found it sad.

I cant even bring myself to watch that show. To me I feel like those women say they love who they are and they love being big and beautiful but I really dont think they are happy and comfortable with themselves at all. I know I never was, even tho I could put on a good front and tell myself I dont care what people think. I cant even watch it because it makes me sad and I feel like they are being exploited.

I don't like the show I think it is just made so that they can make fun of obese people.

Well I've watched all the episodes so far and I really hoped it would be what they advertised it to be. A show about self confident, sexy, big women. Alas they are just like the majority of overweight folks, they want to be skinny! Hello that's not what they are supposed to be doing. They aren't self confident, they second gusss every move with trying to do it the skinny way. They are constantly whinning about their weight, so then fix it but don't say you are being brave new women. I doubt I'll watch anymore because if I wanna hear a fat, whinny, women I'll do it myself!
