19 pounds lost, but Jeans still feel tight!

So I had surgery almost two weeks ago. Still in the liquid stage until Tuesday.  I lost 19 pounds so far! YAY, but my jeans don't feel any looser :-(  I noticed that they still feel tight...

How can this be?  The scale has really dropped, but I guess I'm not losing it in my waist yet.  My mom says that my face looks thiner, but I can't really tell.

Do people tend to lose muscle mass first?  I haven't consumed anything but liquids, SF popsicles and bariatric hot chocolate thus far.  Maybe, i'm losing muscle instead of fat??

I know I'm still in the healing stage and need to be patient.  Just wondering if this happened to anyone else.

BTW...I can't wait to have a scambled egg! LOL

Thanks!

Most of the initial weight loss is water weight. Your body can only burn so much fat in a short period of time .

My jeans were tight for ever after surgery because my stomach was swollen and distended. And then I had been stuffing myself into super super tight pants so it took longer for them to even be normal, let alone loose.

don't worry - they will be faling off you in no time!

I was pretty swollen for a couple of weeks. I even went out and bought bigger underwear because I couldn't stand the tightness of the ones I had. The weight seemed to drop from the top down and bottom up for me. My face, neck, back, arms, legs. Seemed like the last thing to go was the belly. You might start to notice your sleeves being looser, less overhang on the sides/back of the bra, etc. Before you know it, those jeans will be too big!

Believe me..I think for me until i lost about 60 lbs thats when i noticed my bottom half start shrinking..I didnt think  they were ever gonna go...My top half was meltin it seemed..Im sure i had lost some from the bottom half but not enough to notice a big difference. But i guess it depends on your starting weight etc..Just hang in there you will start seeing a difference soon sometimes it seems like overnight sometimes it will take awhile, but just know that it is coming off.:)

I've lost about the same amount and the only place I notice a difference is in my BRA!  Ahhhh!

Oh well ... can't pick and choose where I lose it I guess.

Hopefully we'll both notice it in our jeans soon!

Hi there!

I was shocked in the beginning that the clothes did not seem to fit better quickly.  However, before you know it you will be whizzing through sizes and clothes faster than you can imagine.  Word of caution:  borrow or buy clothing at the Good Will for a while because once you get going you will not stay in them long.  I just went from a solid 10-12 to solid 4-6 in four weeks.  It was like I just woke up one morning and nothing fit any more!  Not a bad problem to have, I asked for it after all.

Good luck in your journey and hang in there.  Think back on this when you finally find that great dress you have always wanted to own and you buy it (even if it was $45 on sale).  It look wonderful, I finally felt sexy, and I wore it only once before it was horribly too big.  :)  Thank goodness for ebay!

Hey I have lost seven pounds since surgery, and I notice a slight difference, but there is still a lot of swelling so hang in there the inches will soon match the weight loss.

How about your shirts and sleeves? The first probably 20-30 loss for me was above my waist. My shirts began to hang on me but I wore the same jeans for months.

About the 40-50 pound loss mark I went down a size. Now I alternate, I lose on my upper body first, then my lower body. I can see in the mirrow how suddenly my hips and thighs look huge in comparison to my waist, then a couple weeks later I even out a little more LOL.

Give it time, great start btw!!!
