Three hospital stays, Two surgeries, One month surgiversary
This is an update to my earlier posts, "I feel miserable" and "I don't cuss but today's a good day to start". Today, 11/13/2011 marks my first month post-op and what an ordeal this has been. My initial VSG surgery went fine (at least my doc and I thought so). My two day stay turned out to be six days because I couldn't pass gas. (Too lady-like...bashful??? I don't know).
Once over that hurdle, less than a week later I had to return to the emergency room due to constant nausea, dizziness, and dehydration. As it turned out, I had "sludge" in my gall bladder and pancreatitis (inflamed pancreas). My second surgery was exactly two weeks after VSG. I was released the next day and returned to the ER less than 24 hours later.
My third hospital stay was an additional 10 days. I was still suffering from dehydration and constant nausea. I have had just about every test under the sun: three CT scans, two MRI's, three blood transfusions, two iron infusions, contrast x-rays, and one brain scan. After all of that, the doc is not 100% certain why I'm still sick.
I was released with a picc line and home health care. My nurse comes nightly to set up my 14 hour IV for TPN (nutrition) so I don't become malnourished or dehydrated as I still cannot tolerate any liquids by mouth. I don't regret my VSG surgery. I see this as only a minor set-back but I sure am ready to resume my normal life.
And to end on a positive note: I am down more than 30 pounds! Yeah
(My happy dance)
