I have had conflicting answers from the support group nurses, my surgeon, and all of the articles I have read...Does anyone drink regular caffeinated coffee. I have not had any since my pre-op diet started. I have been really true to everything I am supposed to do, but I would LOVEEEE a cup of coffee. I have tried decaf....its just not the same. Just one cup. Thats all I ever really had.

I drink coffee daily, but only decaf.  I have high blood pressure, and need to avoid caffeine as much as possible.  I believe decaf is what my surgeon's program calls for also.

My doc told me no caffeine two weeks prior to surgery and none for two weeks following surgery.  Check with your surgeon.

I too switched to decaf.  The caffine will help to dehydrate you, and new sleevers struggle hitting the fluid marks.  My group said the "occasional" cup (not more than 1 per day) after fluid targets have become easier to hit.  I drink decaf, lots of it, daily.

I drink coffee and it's around 20 ounces a day. Our program allows all beverages as long as you are getting in your clear fluids. The diuretic effects of caffeine are minimal and unproven.

My surgeon gave me the ok for coffee after 3 months. I think its because you have to take meds for acid reflux for the first 3 months. Also caffeine is a diretic and we are taking in very little liquid in the beginning stages.

I have read that recent studies are saying that the dehydrating side effect isn't so with coffee.
Anyway our clinic says a couple months out you can do the caffeinated bu only moderately.. like one a day.

I do a pot a day of home-brewed Starbucks. I would rather die or have a root canal than give up my coffee.
