I think it is a dangerous habit to get into. For one thing, our bodies start digestion in our mouths ,so as soon as a food hits the mucus membranes of the mouth we start absorbing.. Do we absorb enough to affect weight loss? That depends on several factors. how often we do it,what we are chewing and spitting and if we have an addictive personality.

The biggest thing is we are not *changing* our behaviors when we do this. We *need * to get over craving things and looking for reasons to keep feeding our fix. As long as we keep giving ourselves the taste of things, the more we are going to keep wanting those things. It might not be a big deal now to keep wanting things, but it will later. Every day there are post about people who have gotten off track because they let a few*things* in.

Just sayin...but I actually doubt there was much left of 3 M&M's to spit out after being chewed.

good luck and keep on keeping on.

besides digestion starting in the mouth, your stomach will start producing acid and if you have reflux that might not be a good thing to have no food in a acidic stomach.

when i was in my late teens early twenties i was bulimic and used to do that, actually i started doing that first and then when i swallowed by accident i would throw it up.  it is classified as an eating disorder to chew and spit.  anorexics do it too.

Those of us who've been on Weigh****chers will probably remember the BLT's.

Bites
Licks
Tastes
They all count!

The habit of popping things into my mouth (mindlessly) got me where I am!!!  Having a huge portion of my stomach removed is serious business - I have no intention of allowing foods with 0 nutritional value to gain control of my life again.  And certainly not during the *golden* days during the first few weeks/months following surgery.

That's just my opinion for myself, but best of luck to you if it works for you!

I, have not chewed and spit, if I'm going to commit to putting something bad in my mouth I have to cut back somewhere else if that means I have a shake instead of a meal because I had a slice of something bad from work then thats what I have to make the mindful choice to do

I have done it when cooking for my family.  I don't really condone it because I do believe it can lead to cheating.

However, I did it with the mindset of testing the food....and not because I really wanted it.  I did it because I needed to taste and tell the texture etc of the food I was serving to my family (example....its hard to tell if pasta is cooked perfectly if you can't put a piece in your mouth or if the sauce is the right flavor).

Never had any urge to eat the food afterwards.  YMMV.

I've never done this and I'm relieved to be able to say that I've never thought about doing it. I have however eaten more than I should have because I was enjoying the food. As we all know post-op we pay for that temporal (pleasure?).

Commit to your recovery from overeating, engage your mind and your will in your decision making. You will make better choices consistent with your desired outcome.

This VSG journey WILL change your life if you commit to making the most of it.

No, b/c you are still getting SOME calories from it, and it is also the start of a very slippery slope and is often the first symptom of an eating disorder, you need to fix your broken relationship with food not encourage it or give it other outlets or excuses.
