First visit with the surgeon... Questions?

I'm trying to gather everything for my first visit with the surgeon, and I think I'm paranoid and maybe being a little over prepared.

My insurance does not require any weight loss history. Just one weigh in with >35 BMI, 1 comorbidity, and no smoking.
So, I have going in there with me:

Records from my Endo
1) Visit is diagnosis of type 2
2) Visit about silent reflux and him having a COW over doing HCG.

Records from my last PCP check up and diabetic labs.

30 days of my downloaded glucose meter
2 rounds of wearing a continuous glucose monitor
(Perk of the job.. I work in Pediatric Endo)

I'm a little guns drawn on the whole diabetes thing. I was 7.1 at diagnosis, and now 6.2 on Victoza. So my fear is that the insurance company says oh you're fine, your A1C is not "diabetic". So I'm a little over the top there because I wanted to show spikes over 200 throughout the day. Anything over 160 is killing beta cells and putting you that much closer to insulin. (Again.. guns drawn in case of appeal letter needed LOL)

Anyway... can I just like ask to go talk to the insurance specialist when I'm there too? Are these the types of questions to NOT ask the Doctor? I'm thinking I should just keep the visit with the Surgeon all about medical questions.

So... what do you feel are good questions to go in there with? I went to the information session. So between that, and you guys here I don't feel like I have tons of questions. But, I also don't want to go in there just shrugging my shoulders like this is no big deal.

What should I expect on this visit?

First, yay for you!  I believe there is no such thing as being over prepared.  I think you are right on top of where you should be!  I don't think those questions would be inapppropriate to ask the doctor, while that's not necessarily the area he focuses on he/she may be able to give you insight as to what to expect, or may refer you on to the insurance specialist.  Anyways, I asked my doctor these types of questions:

how many VGSs have you performed?
what is the average evenutual weight loss?
what % of patients have concerns with acid reflux?
what size of bougie do you use? & oversew technique? (mine says 34-36 are the best results with least amount of complications)
how long is the hospital stay?
What physical limitations will I have & for how long? (I do daycare & have 3 young children so I needed to know how long I would need extra hands)

I'm sure there were more, but that's what I can think of for now.  I was just sleeved on Thursday!  I'm so excited that the journey is in process!  Best wishes on your journey!

Insurance questions are best for the insurance specialist.  I would ask my doc ocassionally and he would usually send me to the insurance lady.

Good luck!

Thanks!
Yes, I'll probably ask to speak to her while I'm there. She spoke at the information seminar and seemed to be ON her game big time. I was impressed.
