My BMI  in July was 40.4.   But now its 38.5 which I was denied from my insurance company two weeks ago..  now I am going to be doing test to see if I have any co-mobility conditions. Monday I have a sleep study test to find out if I have sleep apnea. Which I will be sleeping at the facility. Any advice will help

make sure...no matter how difficult it is...to sleep on your back. It is THE most accurate way to correctly diagnose apnea. If you have it and you sleep on your back...it WILL show up. Also, relax...don't drinK any coffee or alcohol...you want to make sure that you are tired and sleep as deep as you can.

You want to do this...not just to see if you can get approved...but if you do have apnea, you want to be treated for it. My husband definately has it, but when he was at the center, he was never in a deep sleep and so he never rolled onto his back and therefore he was INCORRECTLY diagnosed as NOT having apnea.

If you have any issues such as headaches in the morning, tired even after "sleeping" all night, sore throats, etc. make sure to tell the technician ALL of that.

GOOD LUCK

It's hard to sleep and she's right apnea is more pronounced on your back. Try to go way way tired I couldn't sleep the first time and had to do a second study. If you think you won't sleep ask your doctor for something to help.

It will be hard to sleep because of all the wires they stick on you, but do what you can to make it as comfortable as possible. I brought my favorite pillow with me to sleep on.

Also, if you have to get up for work or something the next morning, make sure you tell them what time you need to leave and allow time to go home and take a shower, because the gel they use to stick the wires to you will be in your hair and all over your body and you will want to get rid of it before going anywhere else.

I made sure to do my sleep test on a Friday night.  By then I am exhausted from work, the kids and life in general.   Didn't think I would sleep but slept like a baby.  As a matter of fact I missed "check out" becuase the tech told me I was in such a deep REM that she didn't want to disturb me.

YEAH...for sure..try to do it on a night that you don't have to be anywhere early the next morning. You will HAVE TO take a shower. The stuff they put in your hair is really like glue. I think most, if not all, have a shower there...I opted just to go home to shower...I wore dark sunglasses and a hat LOL...your hair will be really NUTS!!

If the doctor *****views the sleep study thinks you need a CPAP, they will submit to your insurance for approval, which for me took a few days.  They will want you to use it until your surgery, and you will need to bring it with you to the hospital.

All of this is IF you need it.

Good luck!
