What was worse: VSG or Gallbladder surgery??

I guess I'm all backwards!

Gallbladder surgery was much harder on me than VSG! Could have been becaue I had really lousy pain management after GB surgery. Anyhow, GB surgery hurt like heck afterwards. VSG was a breeze in comparison. Go figure!

I had gall bladder surgery after vsg (six months) The gall bladder sx was nothing the same surgeon did both surgeries.  I went back to work two days after.  Best thing I ever did.

I had gall bladder surgery when I was 23, 15 years ago. I had the easiest recovery. Just hold a pillow to your belly when you walk. I don't think they cut he abdominal muscles as much of if any when you do the gb surgery. That was what made the Vsg recovery so much worse. I promise gall bladder is a piece of cake.

I had my gallbladder removed 3 years ago. The pain before surgery was far worse than after. I am an electrician and I was back to work with my staples still in so the pain wasn't so bad. And to be honest I havent had any real pain since VSG on Monday. Soreness but not pain. I haven't had to take any pain meds since Tuesday in the hospital. All I can say is gallbladder pain only gets worse and my VSG surgeon did both surgeries. 3 insicions for gallbladder and not sure if they were reused...still have vsg bandages.  Good luck!

I have not had WLS surgery yet....but DO NOT WAIT to find out about your gallbladder. I suffered, on and off, for 15 years before I even found out what the pain was from ( I was young and assumed it was my ulcer). Then after finding out it was my gallbladder, I waited an additional 5 years before I had it removed. By then it was so diseased it was life threatening.

So, while I cannot compare the two surgeries, I CAN tell you that waiting to take care of your gallbladder (if indeed, that's what it is...) is NOT the thing to do....the attacks I had prior to surgery where, BY FAR, the worst pain I have ever suffered...and this is coming from someone who has chronic pain from arthiritis, spine issues, fibromyalgia, etc.

DON"T WAIT....it only gets progressively worse.

Thanks so much for all the responses! I will call my surgeon on monday to get the Ultrasound. I can handle the pain as long as it is not accompanied by nausea, which is what made the VSG so bad for me. Seems like many of us end up having our gallbladder removed at some point after VSG - wish they had just taken it out at the same time.

I am the opposite of u. I had gallbladder surgery 9 yrs ago and am having VSG in 3 weeks. I have NO fear because my gallbladder surgery was a breeze. I put off the gallbladder surgery due to fear of surgery. Once the attacks starting coming more frequently I couldn't put it off anymore. honey, I felt amazing after that little 45 minute surgery. I never took pain meds and was only sleepy for a few days. U will be so happy after you get that painful GB out. Best, Sharon

My GB surgery 6 months post-op from VSG was so much easier. I was off work 2 weeks with VSG and could of taken another week. I was off 3 days with GB surgery. The surgery was done late on a Tuesday, went back to work for 1/2 a day on Friday and was back to 100% by Monday. I even went school clothes shopping with my grandgirl 2 days post-op. I would not have been able to do that after my VSG. Def get it checked out! No sense in unnecessary pain!!

Good Luck!!
