Another thing that has worked for me to clear it up faster when it flares is to use paper towels (Or fabric if you have it) and put it in the folds... I feel SO disgusting doing it, and hate the smell when I take them out, but a few days of just that makes a WORLD of difference!

I SO can't wait for plastics... just wanna hold off and make sure I've lost all my weight and see if I have a baby :-)  (don't wanna mess it up!)  It's SO tempting to get it fixed pre pregnancy though... it really sucks... I too have 2 folds... sigh.

I don't know if I have the same issue going on or not. I had the single incision surgery...my Dr. worked out of 1 hole in my belly button and I now get "infections" in my belly button. My PCP says it's because of the way my skin folds "around" my belly button and it doesn't allow moisture to dry up. He suggested to blow dry it every time I shower. It helped 1000% till my blow dryer died. I couldn't get another one for like 6 days till I got paid again so I cleaned it out with rubbing alcohol after each shower and that works better than the blow dryer ever did. The alcohol makes the left over moisture evaporate and it also cleans out any bacteria in there. Now I only use it maybe 1-2 times per month. 91% isopropyl rubbing alcohol is like $1.97 for a 32 oz bottle.. can't beat it. Good Luck!!

Even before surgery I had issues with this, once I got it healed I started using spray deodorant in the areas that were likely to get sweaty or have moisture get trapped. It worked well for me. As far as treating it and getting it to heal... feminine hygiene products are what I've had the best luck with.

Hope it gets better soon!

Ugh, since I started running I have been having issues with this in my freaking belly button, open weeping sores around it, it's super attractive. I get them close to cleared up and then BAM they are back. It's really starting to **** me off LOL

Try my method posted above. It will work especially since it is in the belly button where mine was. It's simply moisture getting trapped in that area and it "breeds" bacteria.

Katester, Rubbing alcohol is cheap, I plan on trying your suggestion and it makes sense that it will help evaporate the water, I will pour some on later today....I know its going to hurt like hell when I do....

Tripmom, I don't think, my belly button story is the same reason as yours but a few years ago, I had blood coming out of my belly button, I went to the doctor and was so embarrassed, he said; when was the last time you cleaned it, well I shower every day but he was right, I was not able to get in there and clean it with just my little finger and soap.  So, every month or so I would also put some antifungal cream (ones that werent working on my belly folds) in there with a que tip, got that problem solved...now 140 pounds less, I can just about get to the belly button with my little finger and soap..
