Why-Loose Skin....???

Not everyone is 100+ pounds over weight- or 50+ years old - or even been obese all their lives.  Maybe some people ARE able to lose the weight without skin issues.  Another poster mentioned their weight loss without skin issues.  Nothing wrong with being hopeful!!!  I know I am.  And if I end up with a lot of loose skin, so be it.  But why worry about it now?  Why not try and be positive???

Great topic as usual Frisco...you troublemaker, LOL.  I've seen the posts too.  "How can I avoid loose skin if I have 100, 130...etc. pounds to lose."  Well people, it is a fact for the majority of us.  There may be a lucky few who don't have to much skin but most of us will and no damn cream or compression garment or pill is gonna prevent it.  So either accept it or get it cut off.  I did.  I admit to vanity just like Ms Shell.  Ain't nothing wrong with vanity.......just sayin'.

Amen!  I guess I need to hop on the vanity band wagon with you and Ms. Shell.  I wanted to feel my best and for me that meant getting the skin cut off.  Heck, at 61 my vanity window was about to slam shut so I had to act fast.

Provocative post as usual, Frisco.

Loose skin was not much on my mind when I did this surgery as I wanted the health benefits of lower weight plus the ability to move more freely and to avoid an early death. But having seen a flat tire and deflated beach ball I certainly expected loose skin and got it, thank you very much.  What I didn't expect was the amount of wrinkles on my face due to the deflating. Now my face looks like other 60 year olds.

Regarding plastic surgery, any one who wants it should try to do it. I would like to get rid of some skin  but just don't feel like going through the surgery and recovery. Am too busy having fun living life unencumbered by 125 lbs of excess ballast.  If I do anything it will be a face lift but I hate the idea of being laid up for even that.

I might feel differently if I were younger and not married to a vsg patient who is working on getting more loose skin. Once at surgeon's program there was a lengthy discussion about loose skin by pre op patients who were not young. I really hope no one is deterred from surgery by the prospect of loose skin. Flab infated skin didn't look all that great either and the other benefits of weight loss  are so awesome.

Jeez, what happened after I went to bed?!  I thought the original post was great and funny. Not every post has to be depressing and full of despair. That would make me leave. It's not like you went to someone else's thread and attacked them. You started your own thread and gave an opinion.

I take a break from OH when I find it depressing or draining. Sometimes I just come on looking for the letters 'NSV' and 'whatcha eating', and then I'm out.

Frisco,

Well this post was a hoot.  As much as i have gone head to head with you on stuff, this one was just mind boggling.  What is it now, someone cannot have an opinion other than another's without being attacked and called names?  A couple of posters lost their minds on this thread and then instead of sitting back and thinking about what they wrote, became like dogs with bones, defending the indefensible and continually tearing at it and you.  This is a public forum and we all do not have to agree, but just because something posted  'hurts your feelings' however inadvertently, understand this is not your family members who have to think about what may or may not upset you.  This really was some of the most misguided posts both removed and not that I've seen since being on here. One person doesn't care about loose skin, one does, what a crime.

Other than a few stupid flame-outs which appear to have been removed (and I only saw one).. I think this thread, regardless of the original intent brought out a lot of real deep conversation from many people, me included. I believe there is worth in that.. regardless of ruffling some feathers along the way.. Heck, sometimes we need to be made to feel uncomfortable for our own good. I see points on both sides, and even for those who may be very sensitive to this- the posts that have not been removed stated that in a very even-handed manner. Kudos to them for being articulate and standing their ground.. I'm all for good conversation that makes you think, especially when it makes you think about a POV that you hadn't entertained before. Maybe that's me.. but I sometimes really appreciate deeper conversations about this thing we are all doing than just "what protein powder is best??"

Jo you're awesome.

If I'm one that "lost my mind", which I'm sure I am, I didn't see any name calling or attacking and most of the time I wasn't even talking to Frisco.

Everyone can have their opinion and I can have mine. I don't care if people don't agree with what I have to say. I'm going to say it anyway even if it's to one of the "sacred cows" of OH. I feel that what I said was very defendable. Nothing here hurt my feelings either, I just think that skin issues are very real and it can be extremely emotional especially for young single women. If this was me being a dog with a bone then you don’t want to see me with a big mac.
