Questions for the Vets - Goal?

Not sure if I qualify as a vet or not?

But, here was my outlook on goal: My surgeon set a goal of 145 lbs for me, because this would put me at a normal BMI. I personally felt that was too small and that my body wouldn't support that weight well, so I set MY goal for 160.

Well, 160 came and went and I thought, eh, for kicks I'll stay on plan and see what happens. I went into it with the mindset that if I lost an other 15 lbs, cool! If not, no worries. I had accomplished what I wanted and I would have been happy at 160. Currently I'm rocking 140 lbs which I NEVER thought I'd be able to pull off, let alone look healthy at (I thought I'd look like skeletor).

My thoughts on goal are, do what is comfortable for you. I told myself at the beginning that I wasn't going to obsess over a number because I knew so many people that have made themselves miserable over it. I instead chose to have a number goal but base where I would stop on how I felt.

You're the only one to make that decision, whatever it is you choose I'm sure will be just fine. Good luck!

Not a vet yet and not at goal but my original goal is 140 lbs but really I would like to be 130 or less because I am only 5' 2" and definitely have a small frame. If I could be 120 or 115 that would be amazing...but we'll see. In the meantime I am focused on keeping to my food plan and mental health plan lol

My progress is SLOW and so I've had a lot of time to think about this. Here's what I've come up with.

Who the **** knows.

I have no idea where I will feel comfortable and it really bothers me because I am very Type A. I've changed my goal weight 3 times. But, part of this journey is getting to know myself better. So, I keep asking myself "Slim, do you like this weight?" The answer keeps being "no."

I read the Plastics forum and I know you are trying to figure this all out on a timeline. But, maybe you (and me) have to let go of the numbers and just get to know the new us better.

I'm not tied to a timeline, I don't really care when it happens whether its next month or August, or January.  I am trying to figure out how to know where to be and how others have made that decision as well.

I tend to be a very goal oriented person, I am not tying my goals to timeline- we all know what a mistake that can be - but I do tie other actions to goal.  For example, I was going to schedule myfirst plastics consult when I reached my 75% EBW lost goal.

The question in the plastics forum was also related to goal - did they adjust goal for the amount of skin that would be removed?

I don't necessarily think you are trying to tie your goals to a timeline. And I only brought up the plastics thread because it also somewhat pertains to a goal weight.

My only point in this is being goal oriented is great. I do very well with goals also - I do fine with moving them out and pulling them in and not hating myself if I miss a goal.

But, you are trying to figure out a "number." All I'm saying is maybe work toward figuring out where you are comfortable and THEN let that be your number.

Look, I still have a goal and it's not going away. But, when I get to that goal I'm going to ask myself the same question I ask myself now. Do I feel comfortable here?

I didn't mean to offend you. It was not my intention.

No offense was taken, and I also take your point.  Its a good one.  All advice is appreciated.

Having not been at a healthy weight in almost my entire life - I am not sure what that should feel like.  I feel better right now than I think I ever have, and I know I am not ready to stop losing.  I can do things now i never thought I could.

I'm really looking for advice on how to set this goal, what to look for - whether thats a number or a certain condition level, whatever the best criteria is.  Thats what I need help figuring out.  I focus on numbers bevcause thats what I know right now.

Looking at BMI, your insurance goal weight of 171 is 21.9 BMI and your doctor's goal weight is 25.6. Your 185 is BMI 23.7.

I'm at just over 23 and feel that I look too skinny - and I'm a woman. Lots of vets told me to shoot for the normal range as my goal was just above. I didn't change my goal, but haven't quite got the losing stopped over 22 lbs later.

What if you shoot for normal BMI and then re-evaluate. I do know lots of vets have recommended a cushion below your goal weight in case you have a small bounce-back.

Highest weight: 335 lbs, BMI 50.9
Pre-op weight: 319 lbs, BMI 48.5
Current range: 140-144, BMI 21.3 - 22

175+ lbs lost, maintaining since February 2012

I had a dunk test to help me to determine, if I needed to lose anymore weight. Based on my low percentage of body fat at my current weight, I decided I really didn't need to lose anymore weight. I am at the middle of my BMI range and I have a medium frame. The beauty of hydrostatic weighing, is that the loose skin doesn't interfere with the results.
