I've read too much in too many places plus have post-op brain haze.

In general, how much protein should we be trying to take in per day during the weight loss phase?

I've been taking in around 80 grams the past three days and that felt like a lot but now I'm wondering.

Depends on your plan, but generally 80g per day is right on target.

Thanks.  I need to organize my info and come up with a better understanding of what I'm supposed to be doing.  Everybody says, "Get your protein first, worry about that first," and I feel like I'm doing that so other than the popsicles and applesauce, I need to find something else to go with.

Tomorrow I may actually get up and have coffee for the first time since surgery. Decaff, though I don't know why it's supposed to be decaff.  So much to learn!

You're probably not supposed to have caffeine because it's dehydrating.  Lots of people have trouble getting in enough liquids, so it'd be like 1 step forward and 2 steps back for them.  :-)

I had it around two months out, I wish I knew which of these was the cure, but here is what my surgeon suggested and things I did on my own  (BTW if your getting 80 g protein I doubt that is the issues)

1.  surgeon tripled my B-12 and had me start a super B complex
2.  "            suggested an iron supplement, Bariatric Advantage 60 mg, lime chewable
3.  "                 "         upping my water, I was at 80 ish I moved it a bit
4.  "            said my 15 carbs a day was not the problem, I moved them up to 40
5.  I started drinking coffee again

If I had to guess what it was for me; I would say, upping my carbs and the coffee, he scolded me on the coffee said it could cause stomach ulcers, so I backed off to half decaf.... 10 oz a day  (my protein was never below 80 when that was going on)

Feeling like I can get thru my day now........

I talked to my NUT and she didn't even want to give me an answer to where I should be, but I told her I thought I was way under everyone else. When I emailed her (last week - 3 weeks post op) I was about 25g of protein and 250 calories a day. I couldn't get my protein shakes down. She said if she had to give me an answer it would be around 60g of protein and at least 64 ounces of fluids a day!! That REALLY helped me - so I went out and got some CLICK - it's espresso protein powder - and now I use that with my protein powder, some almond milk, and some SF torani. This brought my protein and my fluids up (cause now I can stand it). Plus the caffeine helped me too!! I really need it for work :)

I know we are all different, but I hope this helps put things in perspective a little more!!

Take care :)
