Moderation

The most dangerous word in WL.....

Such a vague word...... A word that just begs to be pushed....

Moderation is a learned skill and can be like a loaded gun in the hands of a child.....

For me pre-op.... Moderation meant a half a pizza instead of the whole thing or just one Crispy Kream and hour vs. all twelve at once....

So when I see people here that are early out with a lot of weight to lose and they puff their chest out and say "I believe in moderation"

I can only think to myself .... Good Luck with that.....it would have not worked for me.

I'm not saying they can't do it successfully ...... It's just that it can go wrong very easy and very fast.......

Limitation would be a better word with a set limits.

Moderation is more of a Maintanance word....

Not asking anyone to agree.... Maybe might save a few from falling into a trap.

I don't believe in moderation. It has not ever worked for me before and I have absolutely no indication that it might work after...if I ever get this tool one day when the Gods look the other way.
If I take one bite thinking moderation, it unfailingly ends up being 10. 20, the whole thing of whatever I was trying to eat in moderation. So to me moderation is like a free pass to excuse overeating. Kind of counterintuitive but that is my own personal slippery slope.
So I truly hope that post op I can avoid moderation or eating bad things under the cover of moderation. It may work for some but I truly don't even believe that. I think its lying to oneself. McD's in moderation should be like cyanide in moderation.

Moderate.....meaning not extreme or excessive.  Also defined as "the middle" or fair/average.

I didn't have this surgery to be fair or average ever again.

Just my two cents.

My thoughts exactly.  This surgery is telling me that fair or average isn't for me.

My opinion on the subject....if i could do moderation i would have never been 600 pounds!!!

Allowing anything back into my plan during weight loss would have been a slippery slope with me.... and even in maintenance i highly doubt i will use moderation in that way.
i like the word limitations and it's important to set them. so much can go wrong very very fast..

Learning about me in this journey has made me look at the good, the bad and the ugly... I am NEVER going back to what was!! I know my limits, my weaknesses... I have stopped deceiving myself and the LIES I use to hide behind to defend those eating habits.

Being healthy feels great!! changing my lifestyle and habits have got me there.... no good feeling food of the past is worth passing my lips to change it.

Kudos to those who can.... but from a person who use to be super morbidly obese.... not gunna happen ;) my health is important to me.

Hi there-I had to do a double-take when I looked at your ticker. You've lost 385 pounds since 12/6/11 or did you lose a lot of weight pre-op?  Either way-WTG- what an inspiration you are!!!

TY bbearsmama,
no not since 12/6/11. I seen my surgeon on Feb 25th 2011. I had lost 170 pounds by a diabetic diet before that...i weighed 430lbs when i seen him...he said i needed to lose 30lbs to get to a 60 BMI...join the NS Weight Loss Program (a prerequisit to wls here in NS) and he then would do the VSG to get me down to 250 to do a hernia repair (my gut was fully outside the abdominal wall). I went home and read all the info they had on their program and started to do it. I refined my cals to 1200....fine tuned things... logged my cals and did what they said to do....did trials of the liquid diets etc and as well started walking. since their program is a long n slow one...my one on one wasnt until nov 6th...i was approved then for surgery and it was scheduled dec 6th. ...in that time from feb to surgery i had close to 200 lbs off by following their program, working on behaviours, changing my habits and by pushing myself to walking..almost excessively. eventhough i pushed myself following their program n lost weight before surgery, I still wanted the VSG to help get me to my goal and help me in maintenance....that time in learning about surgery and me was invaluable and helped immensely with the VSG. I knew it was gunna be ME who lost the weight not the VSG... having this tool though helps me get to where i want to be and remain there.
I had my hernia repair 5 weeks ago.... and the end of june i am scheduled for my mesh to be put in and a pannectomy.
