Issues...Thyroid or Surgery?
VSG on 04/04/12
Yeah - I think that's a lot of it. No one really understands this surgery, including me, and everyone else doesn't know. My family knows, but this is just like everything else, something that hasn't worked. So I thin****il they see it - they won't be encouraged either.
I am going to a support group tonight (not my dr.'s cause it's too far) it's the first one I will be going to. Problem is I don't wanna go! lol!!
Thanks for the encouragement, it means a lot, I just really feel like this is chemical and not me!

Girl,. I am right there with you. I haven't been perfect though and have had some carbs. Although not enough carby type foods that a NORMAL person would gain weight, but I am not normal. I think my body is allergic to them. I really do bloat, then feel hungry and want even more. UGH. I am doing my best to obstain from carbs. I need to determine if my hunger is caused by carbs, or if I am unfortunate, and still have hunger after surgery.
Good luck, hopefully we both can break our stalls soon!

I have the hunger problem too! What helps me though is drinking in between my meals. I drink my protein shake (with click-caffeine) in order to help lower my hunger in between. Otherwise I will eat every 2-3 hours and not get enough protein or fluids in. Do you have a meal plan you follow daily? With times and foods that are good for you? Also - I got those oh yeah bars and other protein bars and they help when I crave carbs.
I think that's why this is so frustrating, I feel like I am doing everything right, and even my body looks/feels better, but the scale is a menace to my mind! LOL!!

That's what I do. I have been cooking chicken and I dip into a good dip I make from egg face's blog! I also do a HB egg every morning for breakfast. Dinner I am a little more flexible, but I basically eat the leftovers or some cottage cheese :)
It's SO hard not to let the scale rule me! It's the only evidence this is working! And that's not happening
Ugh!! No more carbs for you, and no more scale for me! Lol!

What went down 3 points, your TSH? If your TSH was over 3, you were undermedicated to start with and your thyroid hormone levels have improved. Your TSH level, optimally, should be between 1-2. Per the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, anything over 3 is hypothyroid despite the fact many labs reference ranges suggest up to '5' is 'normal.'
If you are on thyroid replacement therapy, you need to have full panels done - TSH, free T3, free T4, etc., to ensure you are at the optimal range. TSH is a pituitary hormone, not a thyroid hormone. It only measures the levels of T4/T3 in your pituitary, not your cells. There are different deiodinase enzymes that convert T4 to T3 in the pituitary than in the liver. Particularly while in a calorie deficit, your Free T3 level can drop quite a bit slowing your metabolism. T3 is the active hormone that most directly controls metabolism. Most T3 comes from the conversion of T4 by an enzymatic process in your liver. You may need to go on a T4/T3 combo pill rather than just T4 (if that's what you take now, i.e., synthroid, levoxyl).
Your fatigue may be thyroid related or it may not. It's not uncommon. Iron deficiency can feel a lot like hypothyroid and in fact they can be related. If you have too much T4 it can inhibit absorption of iron which in turn inhibits conversion of T4 to T3, the active hormone. That can cause T4 to build up in your system impeding iron absorption further, impeding conversion in a giant loop.
