I can't do 600-800 cal, but i made the personal choice that I'd rather eat more and lose slower. I've been around for years and who knows if I'll ever hit 100% EWL.

Id rather lose 90% EWL and run a marathon v****ting 100% and not being fit.

You know.... as usual there is a big flaw in my post........I guess my thinking was "In General"

Athletes and SMO.........

What Allison has done and several others here..... have gone far beyond what the rest of us have done and my post doesn't do them any justice.

If your an athlete.... sure those numbers in my post do not pertain.

And.... in General SMO's don't usually fit the BMI ratings.

My apologies to you and others that have gone far beyond.

Nothing but respect !

I know this didn't really pertain to me because I'm sooo far from any particular plan at this point.

I think I would have been more willing to follow a 600-800 calorie plan if hitting goal would have been a reasonable probability within 6-9 months, but starting out heavier, and dealing with eating disorders, I knew I couldn't do it for more than a relatively short time.

OK, Now I feel like an idiot...
what the hell is ewl and smo? Really? did I not get the memo?
And...what the hell do you consider an athlete?

I'm just a simple girl, help me out here.

I run 5k every day except those days that my muscles/time say I cant.
Which is like twice a week. I lift weights a couple times a week lately too.

I did the 600-800 cals a day for the first few months then I upped it gradually, mostly from lack of self dicipline.
My nuts goal was 149 and my goal is 132. I weigh 139 and am now second guessing my personal goal. But still using all the tools and education I have gathered to make good choices and hopefully lose a few more but not so much desire like I used to.

Damn, I hate being out of the loop (sigh)

EWL - excess weight loss - usually measured in percentages (comparing straight numbers is useless so percentage is a better way)

SMO - super morbidly obese - usually characterized by a BMI over 45 or 50 I think

so % of excess weight loss calculation?

example: starting weight 235 -  normal weight 145 = 90 lbs excess weight?
loss 90 lbs = 100% ews?

sorry, but I'm just trying to learn here.

That's basically correct; the main wrinkle is that different docs use different "normal" points as their reference - some use a 25 BMI (the threshold of "normal") while others use 24 or some other number - some have been reported as using a BMI as high as 30 (the threshold of "obese") - talk about cooking the books!

For some, 100% EWL is 80 lb while for others it may be 300 lb or more.

Allison there are exceptions to every rule and you are one of them. Like Frisco said. You are an athlete which requires the additional calories to maintain the energy you need to do what you love which is running. Problem is many people will increase calories with the intention of doing what you do and quit the excercising part of it so they regain. I am in a scenario where my fairly new stomach just cant fit more. I have absolutely ZERO hunger and struggle with the little amount I eat as it is. I will struggle with the maintenance part not due to over eating but more of not being able to stop losing especially because I am pretty physically active. I will need to reevaluate my diet with my NUT when the time comes to see how to increase because at some point I will be like you and require the additional calories just to maintain a good energy level.

Honestly, i just find it lucky that i want to be an athlete because I really like to eat too haha. I think i'd just be doomed if I wasnt as active. I mean...my increase in calories over time was generally just ouf of a lack of self discipline, but kind of in a controlled manner - I am able to maintain a pretty good balance of fueling my body with good quality food, even when I technically don't need it. That's been a big change for me, and one that I can getting me far, but maybe not all the way to 100%.
